Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Find the match for who is traditionally regarded as the writer of Genesis.

Answer: Moses

Tradition holds Moses was the writer of Genesis, as well as Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers, and Deuteronomy. However, some modern day scholars strongly dispute such a belief.

Moses is best known for leading the Israelites on a forty-year-long journey out of Egypt to Canaan, known as the Promised Land. He was assisted by his brother Aaron and sister Miriam.
2. Find the match for the author of at least seventy of the Psalms.

Answer: David

The Book of Psalms contains one hundred and fifty chapters and a number of the Psalms do not contain the name of the author. However, the consensus is David wrote at least seventy of the Psalms. Other writers of the Psalms include Asaph, the sons of Korah, Heman, Solomon, Moses and Ethan. There are forty-eight Psalms that do not contain the name of the author.
3. Find the match for the author of the majority of the contents of Proverbs.

Answer: Solomon

The majority of the contents of the Book of Proverbs was written by Solomon, the famous king of Israel. Agur is credited with writing Chapter 30 while Lemuel is credited with writing Chapter 31. Proverbs is a popular book with Christians and Jews around the world.
4. Find the match for who is traditionally regarded as the author of Lamentations.

Answer: Jeremiah

Jeremiah, a major prophet of God, is credited with writing Lamentations as well as the Old Testament book that bears his name. Lamentations is a collection of poems pertaining to the destruction pf Jerusalem. Throughout the book, Jeremiah laments about not only the destruction of Israel, but the fact the people had turned their backs to God.
5. Find the match for who is traditionally regarded as the author of Judges.

Answer: Samuel

Tradition holds that Samuel, the last judge of Israel, wrote the Book of Judges. After Samuel's death, it is believed two prophets, Nathan and Gad, completed the book. After Samuel's death, the rule of judges ended with Israel then being ruled by kings. The first king was Saul.

The Book of Judges tells of the various judges of Israel and how they enjoyed immense success when they obediently followed God.
6. Find the match for the alternate name for the author of the Gospel of Matthew.

Answer: Levi

The Gospel of Matthew was written by Matthew, a tax collector who was also known as Levi. In the order of appearance, Matthew is the first book in the New Testament and one of four Gospels telling of the life and times of Jesus. Matthew was one of the original Twelve Disciples.

In his account, Matthew takes great effort in pointing out Jesus is the fulfillment of Old Testament prophecy pertaining to the coming of the Messiah.
7. Find the match for the author of Acts.

Answer: Luke

Luke, a physician and worker in the early church wrote the Book of Acts as well as the Gospel of Luke. Acts offers a history of the early church and tells how Christianity spread from Jerusalem to Europe and present day Turkey. Paul, the apostle to the Gentiles, is the central character in Acts although there are considerable details devoted to the likes of Peter, Silas and Stephen, the first martyr in Scripture.
8. Find the match for the author of Philemon.

Answer: Paul

Paul, the apostle to the Gentiles, is the correct answer. Out of the thirteen books Paul is credited with writing in the New Testament, Philemon is the shortest, consisting of one chapter and twenty-five verses in Bible versions such as the KJV, NKJV and NIV.

Philemon was the owner of the run-away slave Onesimus who ended up being converted to Christianity by Paul. The book is actually a letter in which Paul implores with Philemon, an old friend, to accept Onesimus back as an equal in Christ.
9. Find the match for the author of Hebrews.

Answer: No one knows for certain

No one knows for certain who wrote the Book of Hebrews. Some scholars believe Paul wrote the book but others strongly disagree. Over the years, a number of names have been put forth as possible authors, ranging from Apollos to Priscilla. One thing appears to be certain, however.

The writer came from a Jewish background as the book is addressed to Messianic Jews who were going back to their old ways of following God.
10. Find the match for the author of Revelation.

Answer: John

Revelation, the last book of the New Testament, was written by John while in exile on the island of Patmos. Tradition holds the writer was the same John who was a member of the original Twelve Disciples. However, some modern day scholars dispute the belief the writer of Revelation was the same John who was one of the Twelve Disciples.

John is also credited with writing the Gospel of John, 1 John, 2 John and 3 John.
