Double Doesn't Mean Trouble - Twin Quiz

I have a twin, so I made this twin quiz. I made this quiz with my twin, and we had many mini-arguments through the making of it (mostly about who worded the questions better and about making this introduction too 'blabbety blabbety'- means blabbing on!

Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Which of these is NOT true in identical twins?

Answer: They have the same thumbprint.

On many television shows and other things, they have tested to see if identical twins have the same thumbprints. They all found they don't, which is good if one of the twins turns out to be a criminal!

Identical twins share the same DNA, which means that unless the babies suffer from a condition that affects their appearance, identical twins should look very alike. It IS a little disgusting, but my sister and I have the same saliva. It has the same stuff in it, but I still wouldn't go drinking a flask of my twin's saliva! Eek. As most people know, twins start off as one ovum (egg) which then separates into two.
2. When twins of the same gender, who share the exact same DNA, are born, they are called 'identical twins'. When twins don't share exactly the same DNA, and can be different genders, what are they called?

Answer: Fraternal twins

Fraternal twins are just like normal brothers and sisters, but they are born at the same time. Identical twins are much rarer. My sister and I are identical twins - we're special! Siamese twins are twins that are born conjoined. This can be corrected by surgery, but depending on where the twins are conjoined, it can be very dangerous. The others I made up, however twins and single babies can be born through caesarean.

Bispecies, I'm not sure if it's a word, but if it is, it would mean two species.

Bi : two
Species: species

There are no types of twins that are two different species, that's for sure!
3. Vegetarians are more likely to conceive twins than meat eaters.

Answer: False

A research study showed that mothers who eat meat and other animal products are more likely to be pregnant with twins. Carnivores (omnivores, really) have actually 20% more chance of conceiving twins than vegetarians.
4. Queen Cleopatra of Egypt gave birth to twins.

Answer: True

Cleopatra is one of the most famous Egyptian rulers. She was born in 69 BC in Alexandria. Cleopatra had an affair with Mark Antony which resulted in twins, a boy and a girl.
5. A woman is more likely to conceive twins if she is under the age of thirty.

Answer: false

A woman is most likely to conceive twins if she is between the age of thirty and forty. Of course, being younger gives you more chance of conceiving any child in the first place, but if you do get pregnant older, the chance of twins is increased.
6. African women have more chance of conceiving twins.

Answer: True

African women have the highest chance of conceiving twins whilst Asian women have the least chance.
7. If you have history of twins in your family, you have no more chance than anyone else in conceiving twins.

Answer: false

If a woman is a twin she is more likely to conceive a pair herself than if she isn't. Also if she has siblings who are twins or has already had a twin pregnancy before there is a higher possibility she will have twins. This is not always the case, however, and the chance isn't increased too much. There is no history of twins in my family, but we're twins!
8. Twins are 25% more likely to have dark brown hair than single babies.

Answer: False

This, as my twin put it, is 'utter bogus'! The hair colour of the baby depends on their genes, which come from the parents, and possibly their families too. Dark brown IS a very common hair colour, but twins don't have any more chance of having dark brown hair than other babies.
9. What is the origin of the word 'twin'?

Answer: German

Twin comes from the word 'twine', which in German means 'two together'. Twins are always two babies, and they are twins really because they come together, and not at separate births like other babies.
10. Twins usually get along better with each other than normal siblings.

Answer: True

Tests have shown that twins show more affection to each other than normal siblings. This may also be because being the same age, they get along better. Also, twins begin interacting in the womb, so their bonding starts right from the beginning.

Being a twin, I know how great it is to have a twin. I can't imagine not having her with me 24/7 and sharing everything. No, it's not annoying to share everything, including birthdays!

Just for fun, questions people often ask us...
Are you twins?
Are you sisters? (This is a VERY silly question, because we look very alike, and look the same age).

Just to tell you a funny true story...when I was younger, about six, we were at a shop, and my sister went with my dad to one part of the store, while I stayed with Mum in the clothes section. It had been a while and I wanted them to return so I was looking for them, and I thought I saw my sister, so I smiled and waved, only to find out I was looking in a mirror! I'm still pretty young so I remember.

Now, questions people ask when they already know we're twins...

Do you know what the other is thinking?

-Not by telepathy but we just know each other. Very often, people do annoying things (that aren't meant to be annoying, not like little brothers, such as people with a haircut we call the 'annoying hair' doing the 'you put your head in and you shake it all about' part of the Hokey Pokey) we know that the other one noticed. Also, just today, we were watching a movie we've watched before when my twin said 'I never noticed they did that!' I was thinking exactly the same thing. That happens a lot.

Do you feel each other's pain?

-Nope. We have this SUPER superstitious friend (really, VERY superstitious) and she said her twin cousins had a twin-feels-your-pain experience. One broke his leg, didn't feel a thing, the other one was yowling in pain. Don't know if this is true, but she tried a thing that was meant to be one of those, but she did it to my sister, asked if I felt it and I replied truthfully, 'nope'.

Is it weird looking at someone who looks like you?

-Again, nope! To us, we don't really look the same. Alike, yes but it's not strange. We always argue that our noses are WAY different, but everyone laughs...

Do you fight?

-Through this quiz, heck yeah! But usually just tiny bickers, we pout at each other then it's all okay.

Good things about being twins?

-Someone to play with, trustworthy friend (seriously we trust each other like, with everything!) and my favourite... (Drum roll) playing stupid, weird games that other people wouldn't understand, and that previously mentioned 'annoying hair' other people wouldn't notice, but our minds are similar. Also, playing games is more fun with your twin because we think alike, we won't disagree or play it differently or wrong.

Bad things about being twins?

-Would say nothing, but that's not entirely true. These things are very minor, however. Sometimes people treat us as one person. A really heinous incident: At our younger friend's birthday party, she told us to share a lolly bag, and we said okay, thinking that there weren't enough bags, but then we saw her give two lolly bags to one girl who had finished her first one! Also, if one of us does something bad, both of us get in trouble! That is very annoying. Oh yeah, and one of the worst, being compared! It's bad enough having people say 'she's prettier than you' when you're not twins, but being compared to someone who is almost identical and is expected to be as good or bad as you, that's horrible!

Over all, being a twin is very good, hope you enjoyed the quiz, sorry for blabbety blabbeting!
