Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What does the term N.P.K. mean to a farmer?

Answer: Nitrogen, Phosphorus, Potassium

Nitrogen,Phosphorus, Potassium are the three main elements in fertilizer and in the soil required for plant growth. When buying fertilizer a farmer will order based on his N.P.K. requirements.
2. Manure is a good source of fertilizer but what is another benefit of manure?

Answer: Organic Matter

4. Which of these is not a small grain?

Answer: spread limestone

Green manure is a crop planted after the harvest to grow into the fall. This is done so any leftover fertilizer is taken up by this plant and held over the winter. The next spring this plant starts to decompose releasing fertilizer for that crop. It also helps to reduce soil erosion.

Answer: Alfalfa
