Schalke is the suburb of Gelsenkirchen in which the club was founded.
Gelsenkirchen is located in the Ruhr Valley, Germany's industrial centre, in the state of Northrhine-Westphalia. There are approx. 300,000 people living in Gelsenkirchen.

Answer: 1934

Schalke were German champions in 1934, 1935, 1937, 1939, 1940, 1942 and 1958, which were all pre-Bundesligaa.

Schalke's manager Rudi Assauer dropped the cup from the wagon on which they were standing. After this accident, the cup looked really crooked, and a new one had to be manufactured.
They won the German Cup four times : 1937, 1972, 2001, and 2002.

Answer: FC Nuremberg

Since the early 1980s, the fans of Schalke 04 and FC Nuremberg have been part of this unique friendship. Nobody knows for sure how it started, but whenever the two teams play against one another, the fans celebrate together, no matter what the final score is. Even when they play in separate leagues, the fans always support both teams and the friendship and appreciation for the two teams is always a part of the football experience in Gelsenkirchen and Nuremberg.
