1. The Cubs went to 10 World Series in the 20th century. When was their last appearance of the century?

Answer: 1945

They went to four between 1906-1910, winning two of them. They would lose six more, with their final in 1945 against the Tigers.

2. Which Cubs pitcher was on the mound when Babe Ruth 'called his shot' in the 1932 World Series?

Answer: Charlie Root

The controversial incident happened in game three of the series. It was controversial because Ruth's gestures and comments made to the Cubs dugout and Root had never been verified, prior to the Babe hitting it out. The Yankees won the series four games to none.

Answer: Lou Piniella

Lou Piniella managed the Cubs to two division championships in his first two seasons with the Cubs. They were swept out in the NLDS both seasons by the Diamondbacks in 2007, then the Dodgers in 2008. He and the Cubs had the fourth worst record in the 2010 National League season.

Answer: Ron Santo

Santo played 14 of his 15 seasons with the Cubs from 1960-1973. He was a fixture at third base while wearing the number 10. Ron died in December 2010 at the age of 70. Other Cubs that have had their numbers retired are the 14 of Ernie Banks, the 23 of Ryne Sandberg, Billy Williams' 26, and the 31 of Greg Maddux.

Sosa hit 545 for the Cubs. He hit 609 during his career overall. Banks hit 512, and played his entire career with the Cubs.

Kosuke Fukudome signed with the Cubs as a free agent in 2007, then played in their outfield beginning in 2008. He hit a career high 13 home runs for the Cubs in 2010.

Answer: Chicago Whales

Wrigley was built for the new Federal League team Chicago Whales. When the league closed is doors after two seasons in 1915, the Cubs graciously moved in prior to the 1916 season. They would finish fifth of eight teams in 1916 in the NL.

Answer: Billy Williams

Williams won the Rookie of the Year in 1961 over Joe Torre of the Braves and Cub teammate Jack Curtis. The others listed were all Cubs, but did not win the award. Chicago has had their share of rookie winners in the names of Ken Hubbs in 1962, Jerome Walton in 1989, Kerry Wood in 1998, and Geovany Soto in 2008.
