Kaline's first game came on June 25, 1953, against the Philadelphia Athetics in Shibe Park. He had one at-bat, no hits. Al went straight to the Majors from high school, with no time spent in the Minors.
2. Al won the American League batting title in 1955 at the age of 20. What was his league leading average that year?

Answer: 340

Al Kaline was the youngest person to win a batting title. He was one day younger than the previous youngest, another Tiger named Ty Cobb. Cobb batted .350 in 1907 to win the title. Kaline was born on December 19, 1934. Cobb was born on the 18th, 1886.
3. Hitting triples is said to be the most exciting play in baseball. How many triples did Kaline hit in his 22 seasons?

Answer: 75

Before foot ailments and other injuries slowed him down, Kaline was a speedster in his early years. His season high for triples was 10 in 1956.

In 1999, the City of Detroit, renamed Cherry St. to Kaline Drive. Kaline Drive is the street right behind the left field seats at the old Tiger stadium.
