1. The history of the Chicago Bears date back to 1919 when the AE Staley Company started a company team in Decatur. What was their team nickname?

Answer: Decatur Staleys

The Decatur Staleys' first season of play was in 1920. The Decatur Staleys, after moving to Chicago, became the Chicago Staleys in 1921. They then became the Chicago Bears in 1922.
2. Who became the owner of the Chicago Bears after Staley?

Answer: George Halas

Hank Gillo was the head coach of the 1920 Hammond Pros from Hammond, Indiana. Chris O'Brien was the original owner of the Racine/Chicago Cardinals. Elgie Tobin was the original coach of the Akron Pros. George was the owner of the Bears after taking the reigns from Staley and moving to Chicago. In 1921, Halas made Dutch Sternaman his partner and they remained partners until 1932.
3. In 2007, there were two charter members of the NFL left in the league. One was the Chicago Bears. Who was the other team?

Answer: Arizona Cardinals

1920 was the inaugural season of the National Football League. The Decatur Staleys, aka the Chicago Bears and the Chicago Cardinals later named Arizona Cardinals, were the two founding teams left at the end of the 2007 season. The Green Bay Packers joined the NFL in 1921. The Browns were part of the All-American Football Conference, then joined the NFL in 1950.
4. From 1921-1970, where did the Bears call their home field?

Answer: Wrigley Field

The Bears have played in all four stadiums. Staley Field was home for the Bears from 1919-1920, Wrigley Field from 1921-1970, Soldier Field I from 1971-2001, and Memorial Stadium for the 2002 season while Soldier Field was being renovated.
5. In 1921, the second NFL season, the Chicago Staleys were named controversial league champions over what team?

Answer: Buffalo All-Americans

Both Buffalo and Chicago were tied in the final standings finishing 9-1, with ties not counting. The last game was a double-header and the league stated that the second game carried more weight, so they awarded the title of champion to Chicago. Buffalo argued that the second game of the double-header was an exhibition game only, but the league ruled that there were no exhibitions and gave the title to the Staleys.
6. Who did the Bears defeat for the NFLs first postseason championship game in 1933?

Answer: New York Giants

The 1933 season saw the NFL divided into two divisions. The championship was determined by a single postseason game between the leader of each of the divisions. Chicago finished the season 10-2-1 and the New York Giants finished 11-3-0. The Bears won the first offical NFL Championship game, beating the Giants 23-21.
7. What are the main team colors for the Bears?

Answer: Navy blue and orange

The Bears chose navy blue and orange as their colors because of George Halas' alma mater. He was a civil engineering graduate of the University of Illinois, and he adopted similar colors for the Bears.
8. What was the outcome of the second NFL Championship game which was held in 1934?

Answer: NY Giants 30-Chicago Bears 13

The Bears finished the regular season 13-0. The Giants beat the Bears in the championship that has become known as the "Sneakers Game". The weather caused a frozen field at Polo Grounds in New York City, and after a player suggestion, sneakers were used instead of cleats after halftime by some of the Giants.
9. In what years between 1933-1945 did the Bears win consecutive NFL Championship titles?

Answer: 1940 & 1941

In 1940, the Bears defeated the Washington Redskins 73-0. They defeated the NY Giants 37-9 in 1941.
10. In which of the Bears' championship winning seasons did the wearing of helmets become a mandatory league rule?

Answer: 1943

In 1943, the Bears finished the season 8-1-1 and then went on to win the NFL Championship game, 41-21 over the Washington Redskins. Helmets were mandatory equipment for college players in 1939, but not until 1943 for NFL. The first NFL helmets were leather.
