George Foreman lost the Heavyweight Championship title that night to Muhammad Ali, who was crowned the champion again. The match ended in the eighth round with Ali making Foreman count out. Foreman was considerably younger to Ali at that time and was the favorite to win. Foreman had earlier defeated two people, Joe Frazier and Ken Norton, to whom Ali had lost.

Up until then, Mike Tyson was the undefeated champion (37-0). He held every title there was to hold. But in the tenth round of the match against Buster Douglas, in what is considered one of the biggest upsets in boxing history, he was knocked out by his opponent. Buster landed a combination of four punches that sent Tyson to the floor and he was counted out by the referee. Douglas then lost to title nine months later to Evander Holyfield (on 25th October 1990).

Answer: Thomas Hearns

This match nicknamed 'The War' saw Marvin Hagler retain the championship in what is considered one of the best boxing matches in history. The match went up to three rounds and Hearns was knocked out by a bleeding Hagler who sustained a cut to his forehead during the early stages of the match.

He was successful in landing a series of punches on Hearns which helped him clinch the victory and leave his mark on boxing history.

James Braddock who was affectionately known as the 'Cinderella Man' had a turning point in his career when he defeated Max Baer, the then champion in a surprise win. He won by a unanimous decision. Baer was tipped to win and the odds against Braddock were 10-1. James Braddock died in 1974.

On 5th November 1994, George Foreman defeated Michael Moorer in a match that took place in MGM Grand, Las Vegas NV to become the oldest person to hold the heavyweight title at the age of 45. The match went up to the 10th round in which Foreman was able to land a punch on the chin of Moorer, who was counted out.

It was a shocking win as George was not even ranked before the match and had lost his previous match to Tommy Morrison.

This match took place at Madison Square Garden in New York. Joe Frazier won 'The Fight' by unanimous decision. This fight was for the World Heavyweight Championship between two undefeated boxers - Frazier was the title hoder (26-0) and the former titleholder Muhammad Ali was the challenger (31-0). Ali was the former champion stripped of his title, after he was convicted of draft evasion charges on 20th June 1967.

The match went 15 rounds and thus the decision of the winner had to be decided by the judges. Frazier then subsequently lost the title to George Foreman two years later on 22nd January 1973.

The second match between Louis and Schmeling happened in the Yankee Stadium in New York. They first had a match in 1936 which Schmeling, a German, won (Joe Louis had been undefeated until that match). Joe Louis won their rematch in just over 2 minutes by landing a series of punishing punches on Schmeling. Luois was the heavyweight champion when the match started, having won the title in JUne 1937.

At the time of the rematch, the Nazi rule was rising and this match came to the spotlight with the fact that an American was facing a German.

'The Fight of the Millennium' was a welterweight championship match between Félix Trinidad (who was 36-0 and the IBF titleholder) and Oscar De La Hoya (who was 31-0 and the WBC titleholder). Trinidad won the match to the surprise of the crowd by majority decision. De La Hoya had held the upper hand during the entire match and reduced his intensity during the later parts of the match finally losing out to Trinidad, a Puerto Rican.

The "Thrilla in Manila" was the third match between Frazier and Ali. Ali won this historic match after Frazier didn't return to the ring for the 15th round - a technical knockout. Frazier's coach threw in the towel, to Ali's surprise. This match was a highly hyped one and proved to be worth the money, with both players bringing their best during this brutal match.

Their first meeting was called "The Fight of the Century" (8th March 1971), which Frazier won; and Ali won their second meet (28th January 1974). Ali had just won back the title by beating George Foreman, surprisingly, on 30th October 1974.

Answer: Gene Tunney and Jack Dempsey

This match between Tunney and Dempsey was a rematch between the two. Exactly a year before, in Philadelphia, Tunney had defeated Dempsey in their first meeting. During the time of the match, the rule that if a player has his knocked his opponent on the floor, he must retreat to a corner for the count was just being coined. During the match Dempsey knocked Tunney down and was on the floor for a considerable amount of time before the referee started counting, leading many to believe that it was rightfully Dempsey's match to win.

But Tunney recovered and won the match by a unanimous decision to retain his title. Due to the controversy in the count, this match was nicknamed 'The Long Count'.
