Saint Joseph's won the Eastern title with a 14-2 conference record. Their only conference losses came to Dayton (58-54) and Rhode Island (65-60). The loss against to Rhode Island (4-12 in conference, 6-22 overall) may have been the deciding point in leaving Saint Joseph's out of the NCAA tournament.
