Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. This team was the first to draw one million fans for a season at home.

Answer: 1920 Yankees

Not many teams drew a million until the boom after WWII.
2. Which team never drew over a million in any year of their existence?

Answer: Philadelphia A's

The Senators only managed one million plus season (1946), thanks again to the post WWII boom.
3. What is the smallest recorded attendance at any single World Series game?

Answer: 6,210

Way back in 1908 Detroit drew that amount for the deciding game five with the Cubs. Everyone must have been at the MLS Cup.
4. Which team has the longest unbroken streak of million plus seasons?

Answer: Dodgers

Starting in 1945, the Dodgers of Brooklyn and Los Angeles have had at least a million fans show up each year. True, most don't stay for the whole nine innings but they pay the dough.
5. The highest attendance for any single major league game occured at a ___________ ?

Answer: World Series game

92,706 showed up October 6, 1959 at the mammoth LA Coliseum to witness game five between the White Sox and the Dodgers. Interesting to note that this crowd is larger than the entire year's attendance for the 1935 St. Louis Browns!
6. Has any player had 30+ doubles, triples and home runs in a single season?

Answer: No

Hey, it's baseball you got to expect one from left field once in awhile. Seriously, if and when such a season happens that will re-define the term 'career year'.
7. Which franchise holds the mark for highest road attendance in a year?

Answer: Cincinnati Reds

In 2000, the Reds drew just over three million on the road. Must have had some killer interleague dates.
8. Which of these major league parks had the highest capacity at the end of the 1990s?

Answer: Qualcomm Stadium

This changed in the new century when a new, smaller downtown park opened in San Diego continuing a trend towards smaller, more intimate parks.
9. Which of these teams recorded the smallest attendance figure for one season?

Answer: 1979 Oakland A's

Amazingly the A's couldn't draw as many fans in the non-strike season of 1979 as the other teams did in those strike-plagued years.
10. Which of these teams have never drawn over three million for a season?

Answer: Kansas City Royals

I was surprised to learn this myself, given the great support the city has given some very good Royals teams of the past.
