Answer: Bob Turley

It was the 1958 series against the Milwaukee Braves. Turley started 31 games in the season, and appeared in only two in relief. He went 21-7 to win the Cy Young award, and went 2-1 to win the series MVP award. The Yankees won four games to three.

Answer: Charlie Gehringer

Gehringer was a 19-season career Detroit Tiger. He won the MVP award in 1937 for batting .371 with 209 hits. He won the award over three Yankees and teammate Hank Greenberg. Charlie was a 1949 Hall of Fame inductee.

Rigney managed the Giants, Angels, and Twins over 18 seasons. He saw one ALCS in his career at the helm of the Twins, but lost to the Orioles. He retired in 1976. Tanner took the Pirates to the promised land in 1979, Johnson took the 1986 Mets to the big game, and Murtaugh took the Pirates twice.

Answer: Babe Ruth

Ruth accomplished this when he joined the Boston Braves in his final season in 1935, after doing this as a Yankee. The Babe set many home run records, and one that will probably never be surpassed, is that when hit 60 home runs in 1927, he was the first to hit more home runs all by himself than all the other American League teams in the season.

Answer: Vern Kennedy

The Penn Relays is the oldest track and field competition in the United States. It began in 1895. Kennedy won the decathlon in 1927, then later joined the Chicago White Sox in 1934. He went 21-9 in 1936, and finished sixth in the MVP voting.
10. Who was the first pitcher in baseball history to lead his league in wins, and later win a batting title?

Answer: Guy Hecker

Hecker of the Louisville Colonels in the American Association went 52-20 to lead the league in 1884, and also threw a Triple Crown in the season. In 1886, Guy won the batting title with his .341 average. He won the batting title over teammate Pete Browning.
