1. In the first 100 years of the Major Leagues, there were two players nicknamed 'Lefty' who were inducted into the Hall of Fame. Who were they?

Answer: Robert Grove and Vernon Gomez

Grove and Gomez were both pitchers. Grove spent 17 seasons between the As of Philadelphia and the Red Sox of Boston. Grove entered the Hall of Fame in 1947. Gomez spent 13 seasons with the Yankees. He was inducted into the hall in 1972.
2. Who earned his nickname as a young boy who carried hotel bags, purses, and satchels for the residents?

Answer: Leroy Paige

After winning thousands of games in the Negro Leagues, Leroy 'Satchel' Paige pitched for five seasons and three innings in the Major Leagues. He appeared in a game at the age of 59 in 1965 with the Kansas City Athletics.
3. Which career Baltimore Oriole pitcher had the nickname 'Cakes'?

Answer: Jim Palmer

None of the others listed were pitchers or ever played for the Orioles. Palmer was a three-time Cy Young winner in the 1970s. He helped the Orioles to four World Series appearances and won two. Jim retired in 1984 and inducted into the hall in his first year of eligibility in 1990.

Burgess was a short and stocky catcher for five teams, and mostly the Pirates during his 18 seasons in the big leagues. He was a six-time all-star, and was at the 1960 World Series which saw the famous World Series ending home run by Bill Mazeroski.

Munson was one of the greatest catchers in history. He also had the nicknames of 'The Wall' and 'Squatty Body'. He played for 11 years in the pinstripes before his tragic death in 1979. Thurman was the 1970 Rookie of the Year, the 1976 AL MVP, and was a seven-time all-star.

Over 25 seasons, Kaat played for five teams as a pitcher. He made the move with the Washington Senators to Minnesota in 1961. Jim retired in 1983 with an amazing 16 Gold Glove awards.
