Robert George Willis was born on 30th May 1949 in Sunderland. He added the name Dylan, as a tribute to his musical hero, Bob Dylan. Incidentally, Bob Dylan was born Robert Allen Zimmerman, using the surname Dylan as a tribute to his hero, Dylan Thomas.

Willis is remembered for racing in to bowl, his mane of curls bouncing around as he ran. He began his career at Surrey, then moved to Warwickshire where he spent the rest of his time in the first class game. He was selected as one of the Wisden cricketers of the year in 1978.
