Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What stunt is executed correctly when the flyer jumps into the bases' interlocked hands and is thrown several feet into the air?

Answer: Basket toss

A sponge toss is when the bases' hands are not interlocked. An extension is a two-legged stunt. A whip is not a cheerleading stunt, I just made it up.
2. What stunt is correctly executed when the flyer has one leg completely extended above her head and her head is below her hips? She should be grasping the bases wrists and keeping herself perfectly straightened.

Answer: Needle

This move originated from gymnastics. A heel stretch is almost the same except the flyer stands upright and holds her own ankle instead of the bases wrists.
3. A back spot should push a flyer from her behind and help the bases lift under the flyer's feet.

Answer: False

A backspot should never push from the flyer's behind because it could cause her to go forward instead of straight upward. It is an illegal stunt if the backspot becomes a primary base.
4. What stunt is executed correctly when the flyer has both legs locked and the bases' arms are fully extended about their head.

Answer: Extension

A prep is help at shoulder level. A thigh stand is held at the waist level. I just made up mountain.
5. How many people (including the flyer and spotters) are involved in a basket toss?

Answer: 5

A basket toss has one backspot, one frontspot, 2 bases and a flyer. It can sometimes be performed without a front spot.
6. Bases should push the flyer's feet forward when cradling.

Answer: False

Bases should NEVER push the flyer's feet forward. It is called sweeping and is very bad technique.
7. When should the bases talk during a stunt?

Answer: If there is a serious problem

Only the backspot should ever talk during the stunt, unless the flyer is in danger. The baskspot only talks to dismount the stunt.
8. It is only the front spot's job to make sure the flyer doesn't fall.

Answer: False

It is everyone's job to make sure the flyer doesn't fall. The flyer needs to let the bases know if she feels unbalanced.
9. The flyer should always make eye contact with the bases.

Answer: False

A flyer should always look straight ahead. If she looks down, her momentum will be traveling forward.
10. A front spot is mandatory in all phases.

Answer: False

A front spot should be used when learning new stunts or transitions. It is optional once a stunt is mastered.
