Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Shaun Alexander was a consensus All-American twice during his tenure as the running back for the Tide.

Answer: False

Although he is arguably the best running back in school history, Shaun never was a concensus All-American. In fact, no running back in Tide history had that honor even before him.
2. On Jan. 1, 1946, Alabama finished off a 10-0 season and beat Southern Cal in the Rose Bowl by what score?

Answer: 34-14

Alabama dominated this game the whole way. They out-gained USC 292-6 on the ground and held them scoreless for 3 quarters. This was a major stepping stone in Alabama's road to dominance.
3. Gene Stallings had a better winning percentage than Paul Bryant.

Answer: False

Though Stallings had a winning percent of .810 and averaged 10 wins per season, the "Bear" was just slightly better with a percentage of .824.
4. In 1960, Bama trailed Georgia Tech 15-0 at halftime. Bama came back to win. What was the final score?

Answer: 16-15

This game is known to some as Bama's best comeback win considering that the Tide's best player, Pat Trammell was injured, and the backup kicker won the game on field goal with 3 seconds left.
5. In 1958, Why did "Bear" Bryant (according to him) come back to Alabama?

Answer: Mama called

Not only did he return to Bama because "mama called", but he also never wore his signature houndstooth indoors including the Superdome for the Sugar Bowl, because his "mama taught him manners".
6. In 1992, Alabama won it's 12th National Championship. Of the 22 coaches Alabama had up to that point, how many led their teams to National Championships?

Answer: 4

Wallace Wade won the first in Tide history followed by Frank Thomas, then the greatest coach of all-time, Paul "Bear" Bryant. Stallings won the last in 1992.
7. During the entire 20th century, how many times did Alabama beaten archrival Auburn in Tuscaloosa?

Answer: 0

Even though they have only played 5 games at Bryant-Denny stadium, due not only to the cancellation of the rivalry for many years, but also because it was played in Birmingham, Alabama had never beaten Auburn in Tuscaloosa.
8. After playing in the Southern Conference for many years, in what year did Alabama join the SEC?

Answer: 1933

Alabama was in the Southern Conference for 12 years. They won a few conference titles, and in 1933 packed up their bags and headed to the SEC.
9. After beating Texas Tech in the 2005 Cotton Bowl, Alabama had won more bowl games than any other team in history.

Answer: True

Alabama already held this honor before that victory, but it gave the school 30 bowl victories. They also set a record for most bowl games played with 54.
10. In the 1979 Sugar Bowl, Alabama beat Penn State. What made this game famous?

Answer: Goal line stand

In 1979, Penn State was 4th and goal and one foot away. Bama linebacker Barry Krauss and Penn State full back Mike Guman collided with such a force that the rivets in Krauss' helmet popped, but he held Gunman up and Bama went on to win 14-7, and the "Bear's" final National Championship.
