Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Where was the Final of the 2009 IPL held?

Answer: New Wanderers Stadium, Johannesburg

This was held on 24 May, 2009. Deccan Chargers won the toss and chose to bat. The astonishing thing was that Captain Adam Gilchrist of the Chargers got bowled out to Captain of Bangalore- Anil Kumble, for a duck, and that also in the first over!
2. So, Adam Gilchrist is out and the Chargers are in trouble. Who was his other partner, who at last saved the batting for the Chargers?

Answer: Herschelle Gibbs

After the dismissal of Gilchrist, the Chargers' camp was stunned, but his partner, Gibbs, saved the match with his mighty 53.
3. While Andrew Symonds was at 5* when he was batting, this Indian fielder dropped a sitter at slip at the bowling of Vinay Kumar. Who was the fielder?

Answer: Rahul Dravid

Chargers were 2/23 in their 6th over, and at the second ball of the over, Symonds went for a shot, and the ball got edged, right in the hands of Dravid, who dropped the catch.
4. How many runs were added by Rohit Sharma and Herschelle Gibbs for the 4th wicket, after the dismissal of Symonds, who was bowled by Anil Kumble?

Answer: 52

After a smashing 33(21) by Symonds, the Chargers were 3/58. Gibbs was not smashing, and Rohit had just come in. And this was the time, where Gibbs started hitting, and Rohit Sharma was chipping in with runs. At 3/110 in 16.1 overs, this partnership got broken, with the fall of Rohit, and Chargers were 4/110, still looking for a bigger total.
5. The lower order didn't perform well after the 4th wicket loss. How much did Deccan Chargers make?

Answer: 6/143

With Gibbs' 53, DC could make 143. Definitely a majority would have said(before the match, possibly)that DC would make 160+. But Kumble showed the duty of a captain, and took 4/16 including the wicket of Gilchrist. Could RCB make 144, or Deccan Chargers would lift the IPL?
6. So, Kumble's Challengers to bat and the Underdog Chargers to bowl, both aiming for the trophy. Who opened for Royal Challengers Bangalore?

Answer: Jacques Kallis and Manish Pandey

Manish Pandey who had scored a century against DC in the second encounter in the group stages, failed here and made just 4, and Kallis made 15. Van der Merve gave some support by a quick 32 of 21.
7. Roelof Van der Merwe scored 32 off 21. Who is this batsman who gave support by his 27 off 20 balls, scoring 3 fours and 1 six?

Answer: Ross Taylor

Coming in at 3/57, after the fall of Van der Merwe, he went on playing, until at 5/99, where he was dismissed, and the very next ball it was the end of Virat Kohli, who just scored 7.
8. Now is the decider question. How many runs did the Royal Challengers Bangalore score chasing 144?

Answer: 9/137

And this was IT. Despite Kumble's 4/16, Deccan Chargers won IPL season 2. Pragyan Ojha took 3/28, and Symonds took 2 wickets in consecutive balls(of Ross Taylor and Virat Kohli).
9. This player of the Deccan Chargers was the only player other than Yuvraj Singh to take a hat trick in IPL season 2. Who is this miraculous batsman, who was able to achieve this feat?

Answer: Rohit Sharma

He took this against Mumbai Indians, where the last two balls of his over were wickets of Abhishek Nayar and Harbhajan Singh, and the first ball of his next over was of JP Duminy. Another miracle(in IPL season 2)he is noted for is that in a match against the Kolkata Knight Riders where in the last over, after a smashing performance by Rohit, 21 runs were needed off 6 balls. Mashrafe Mortaza, one of the noted Bangladeshi pacers, was hit 26 runs in the last over.

The miraculous part was that the winning runs were scored off a six! He was also given the award of the best Under-23 player of IPL season 2.
10. The last thing of IPL season 2, who was the Man of the Series?

Answer: Adam Gilchrist

Anil Kumble was the Man of the match for his 4/16. Despite Yuvraj's 2 hat tricks, Adam Gilchrist was the Man of the Series. Matthew Hayden of the Chennai Super Kings was awarded the orange cap for 572 runs, but Adam Gilchrist has the highest runs aggregate combined of season 1 and 2.

The purple cap was received by Rudra Pratap Singh of Deccan Chargers, claiming 23 wickets. Hope you've had fun playing!
