Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. I went from an All-State prep quarterback to All-America tackle. I won the Outland Trophy in 1962 with the University of Minnesota. I began my NFL career at defensive end, then was moved to linebacker. I played my entire 12-season career as a linebacker with the Kansas City Chiefs beginning in 1963. I was a nine-team Pro Bowler, retired in 1974, then later became a Hall of Fame inductee. Who am I?

Answer: Bobby

The Chiefs front office (then with the AFL) was so sure that Bell would sign with the Minnesota Vikings, that they didn't consider him at all in the 1983 draft. He was still available in the seventh round and Kansas City nabbed him. Bobby played from 1963-1974.

He helped the Chiefs and Len Dawson get to two Super Bowls. Bell had nine career touchdowns along with 26 interceptions. He was the first Chief ever inducted into the Hall of Fame in 1983.
2. I was a 1984 first round draftee, the 26th pick, and was a running back for seven seasons with mostly the Bills and Rams. My best season by far was in 1988 when I rushed for over 1000 yards for the third time in my career. I also ran for 16 touchdowns. Who am I?

Answer: Greg

Greg was involved in one of the largest trades in NFL history. The 10-player trade came on Halloween Day in 1987 that involved the Colts, Rams, and Bills. The main player that caused it all was the Rams' Eric Dickerson, who ended up in Indianapolis.

The trade took Greg from the Bills to the Rams. Bell's only Pro Bowl season was in his rookie year in 1984. He ran for 1100 yards with the Bills and caught 34 passes in the season. He retired in 1990 as a Raider with 51 career rushing touchdowns.
3. For five seasons I was Tampa Bay's tight end. My highlight was in 1985, catching 43 passes from Steve Deberg and Steve Young in only nine games. Who am I?

Answer: Jerry

Jerry played from 1982-1986. He was replaced in 1987 at tight end by Calvin Magee. Bell caught only seven touchdown passes in his career.
4. I was an Ohio State standout, was twice an all-Big Ten selection, and was a fourth round Chicago Bear draft pick. I was a defensive back for six seasons with the Bears, then two with the Eagles. Who am I?

Answer: Todd

Bell played from 1981-1989, and saw his only Pro Bowl in 1984. Due to contract disagreements, he never played in the Bears' 1986 Super Bowl season. In March 2005, Bell died at the age of 47.
5. I was a New York Jet wide receiver in the 1970s. I took most of my 118 receptions and 12 touchdowns from the great Joe Namath. Who am I?

Answer: Eddie

Bell was a 1953 Ivy League standout in Philadelphia before being drafted by the Jets. Eddie was a Jet from 1970-1975, then spent his final season in San Diego without playing a game for the Chargers in 1976.
6. Five of my six seasons were as a Tampa Bay running back. My stellar season was in 1979 when I rushed for 1263 yards. I retired after my only season with the Chargers in 1982. Who am I?

Answer: Ricky

Ricky played in Tampa Bay from 1977-1981. Bell caught only three touchdown passes in his career, and two of those came in that 1979 season from Doug Williams.

8. I was a wide receiver for the Steelers and Bucs in the 1970s and 1980s. In 1980, I averaged 25.8 yards per catch from Terry Bradshaw and Cliff Stoudt. Who am I?

Answer: Theo

After his career-high season in 1980, he packed his bags for Tampa Bay, then retired after the 1985 season. His only rushing attempt was in 1981, running for seven yards. Bell caught eight career touchdown passes.
