Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. How many boards are there across on one lane of a bowling alley?

Answer: 39

Thats right there are 39 boards across from left to right on a bowling alley!
2. When on the approach to bowl, if you want to hit the far right arrow, what number board will you be aiming for?

Answer: 5

The first arrow on the right hand side lies directly on the 5 board.
3. The head pin is what number?

Answer: 1

The head pin is the first pin, when counting in bowling you start with the head pin then move back through the rows from left to right.
4. Some bowling lanes are made out of real wood.

Answer: True

There are two different types of lane conditions, synthetic and real wood, yes some bowling alleys use real wood for their lanes.
5. Say you are a right handed bowler, with relatively little hook, if the lanes have just been recently oiled and you want to adjust to throw a straighter line into the pocket, which way would you move your feet on the approach?

Answer: right

As a right handed bowler to line up for a straighter shot into the pocket you would need to adjust to the right.
6. Which one of these balls would you expect to react the best, producing the best snap on the backend?

Answer: Reactive Resin

Reactive Resin would be the only one to make sense, as all the other three are designed for little hook.
7. If you want to hit the middle arrow on the lane, what board does it lie on?

Answer: 20

If you know about bowling you know that the arrows are 5 boards apart, and the 4th one is on the 20 board.
8. What is the hardest split to pick up in bowling?

Answer: 7-10

The hardest spare to pick up would be a 7-10 split because they are the farthest apart on the lane, I have yet to see anyone pick this split up.
9. X X X X X 9(spare) X X X XX8. (Just a note that in the 6th frame that is a nine spare, but the software wouldn't allow me to put in a slash to designate such.) What is the score of this game?

Answer: 277

All strikes and a nine spare will typically account for a 279 unless the nine spare occurs in the first, second, or tenth frames, so it was easy subtraction.
10. If you go to your local bowling alley you will want to approach where to buy a ball?

Answer: Pro Shop

Pro shops across the nation will help you to find the right ball.
11. Which of these would be the most typical shape for a ball return?

Answer: oval

Most ball returns are either oval or round, to allow the balls to move around when they come back.
12. Which board number does the third from the right arrow lie on?

Answer: 15

I think you have gotten the drift now as to how to count out boards on the lane.
13. Typically, to pick up a 7 pin which side would a professional right handed bowler like to stand more towards, left or right?

Answer: Right

Assuming this is a professional, he would want to use a cross-lane bowling technique to pick up his spares, therefore you stand right to throw left, and vice versa if you want to throw the ball to the right.
14. If you leave a 4-6-7-9-10 split this is more commonly known as a what?

Answer: Greek church

I didn't hear this term for my first couple years of bowling, but you may have seen the split before, 2 on the left and 3 on the right.
15. There is a patch handed out by the YABA to youth bowlers who succesfully pick up a 1-10 combination.

Answer: False

Patches will be awarded to those who get a 7-10 split, and while the 1-10 does look like it would be farther away in numbers, it is a heck of a lot easier to pick up. I hope you enjoyed my quiz and learned something about bowling in the process.
