Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Who scored the last ever goal at The Dell?

Answer: Matthew Le Tissier

At that time, 'Le God' wass one of only 2 players (the other was Graeme Le Saux) to come from the Channel Islands who has also represented England at full international level.
2. Who did Nottingham Forest beat in the final of the 1979 European Cup Final?

Answer: Malmo

Most of the starting line up for Forest's opponents that evening were actually from the city of Malmo.
3. During Euro '96, who scored the goal that effectively knocked out Scotland in the group stage?

Answer: Patrick Kluivert

As it stood, with England 4-0 up against Holland and Scotland winning 1-0 over Switzerland in the final group games, Scotland would have qualified for the Quarter Final stage. But, Kluivert reduced the deficit for Holland to 4-1, to leave the Jocks heading back north early... again.
4. What song did hard-man turned thespian Vinnie Jones release as a single, during his playing career?

Answer: Woolly Bully

Of the 3 incorrect answers, one was sung by Tom Jones, one (most famously) by the Troggs and the other strangled offering was slaughtered by Hoddle and Waddle. If you don't know which was which, then don't worry about it!
5. Who won the first ever League Cup Final?

Answer: Aston Villa

The first ever League Cup Final took place in 1961 and with Villa's win, they became the first club to have won all 3 major domestic trophies. Villa beat Rotherham United 3-0 at home, and lost 0-2 away.
6. How many England caps in total did Brian Clough and his son Nigel win in their careers?

Answer: 16

Brian only won two measly caps, despite his awsome goalscoring records and Nigel won fourteen caps during his international career.
7. What was the name of the Brazilian right back that scored a couple of great goals at the 1986 World Cup Finals in Mexico, including a screamer against Northern Ireland?

Answer: Josimar

I've never heard of him since, but his goals were 2 of the best I've seen in World Cup history.
8. Who scored Everton's goal in the 1986 FA Cup Final?

Answer: Gary Lineker

It didn't help much in the end, Liverpool won 3-1 and young Gary left for Barcelona.
9. Which of these teams won the European Cup the least number of times during the 1960s 70s 80s and 90s?

Answer: Barcelona

An extra-time Ronald Koeman free-kick in the 1992 final at Wembley gave Barcelona a 1-0 win over Sampdoria. That was their only European Cup triumph iduring those 4 decades.
10. Which of these players scored a goal against Coventry City in one of the FA Cup's greatest ever giant-killing acts, a 2-1 win for Sutton United in 1989?

Answer: Matthew Hanlon

Coventry lost away to non-league Sutton, only two seasons after beating Spurs in the 1987 FA Cup Final.
11. On the terraces (or all-seated stands, if you prefer) of which club are you most likely to hear a chant start with: 'Kick it off, throw it in, have a little scrimmage. Keep it low, splendid rush, BRAVO win or die!...'?

Answer: Norwich City

'On the ball, City! Never mind the danger. Steady on, nows your chance. Hurrah, we've scored a goal! City, City...'. Written by a vicar apparantly. I can't think why no other teams fans have stolen this song and sing it for their own team!
12. Which ITV co-commentator is most likely to have said: 'It gave the young lad a lollipop at the back stick by boxing it earlydoors'?

Answer: Ron Atkinson

If anyone knows the Ron-glish to English translation of this, then please let me know.
13. Which of these players scored the fastest 250 goals in English Football history? i.e. who got to 250 career goals in the fewest number of games?

Answer: Brian Clough

What a legend that man really is. He scored 251 goals in 274 games! Were there no limits to what he could achieve in football?
14. David Phillips (the ex-Wales, Manchester City, Coventry City, Norwich City and Nottingham Forest player) was born in which country?

Answer: Germany

His father was stationed in Germany, whilst serving in the RAF, at the time of his birth.
15. What is the middle name of the Liverpool and Celtic legend Kenny Dalgleish?

Answer: Matheson

He was one of only 3 managers to have won the top English league with 2 different clubs as a manager.
16. Who was in goal for England the night that Italy won 1-0 at Wembley in a World Cup qualificier in February 1997?

Answer: Ian Walker

Gianfranco Zola beat him with a near post shot to take all 3 qualification points for the Italians. None of this mattered in the end, as a 0-0 draw on a memorable night in Rome was enough for England to top their group.
17. Who knocked Chelsea out of the UEFA Cup in the 2001-02 season?

Answer: Hapoel Tel-Aviv

Considering that Tel-Aviv isn't even in Europe, I find it quite amusing that a team with as good a reputation as Hapoel's undeniably is (err, maybe not!), managed to knock both Chelsea and Parma out of that year's competition.
18. Who were the reigning champions of England when Nottingham Forest won the European Cup in 1980?

Answer: Liverpool

Back in the days when you had to win the league to play in the European Cup, Forest qualified for the 1980 competition by winning the same trophy in 1979. Forest were the only club side in Europe to have won the European Cup more times than their own domestic league.
19. I'm sure there's a joke in there somewhere, but who lobbed Seaman from 45 yards in the last minute of extra time in the 1995 Cup Winners Cup Final, to beat Arsenal?

Answer: Nayim

The fact that Nayim was an ex-Spurs player just added to the humour of the occasion for those non-Gooners amongst us.
Real Zaragoza v Arsenal 2-1 aet (1-1 at full time).
20. The 'Three Lions' song, England's classic song for Euro '96 by Baddiel, Skinner and the Lightning Seeds got to number 1 in the British charts. What number did it reach in the German top 40?

Answer: 17

Okay, so the German's took home the trophy in 1996, but trying to steal our song too! It's just not on. 5-1 Job done.
