Monaco Grand Prix winner Jarno Trulli told the press he would be leaving the Renault team. He refused to reveal which team if any he would be joining for 2005.

Jenson was forced to start from P13 after suffering an engine failure in Friday's second practice session.

The track was modified after the 2001 event. The popular long straights through the woods were removed with new parts taking their place. The shortened version saw the laps increased to from 45 to 67. In 2004 the warm up lap counted as one lap after Panis stalled on the grid.
