Rony Seikaly was selected by the Miami Heat with the ninth pick of the 1988 NBA Draft. He was the team's starting center from 1988 to 1994 after which he played for the Golden State Warriors, Orlando Magic, and New Jersey Nets. Interestingly, after his NBA career Rony Seikaly was an accomplished musician releasing several albums and hosting his own radio show.

Glen Rice was a star player at the University of Michigan and he was drafted by the Miami Heat with the fourth pick in the 1989 NBA Draft. Throughout his time with the Heat from 1989 to 1995 he wore jersey number 41 and he was consistently one of the leading three-point shooters in the league. Glen Rice was a three-time All-Star and in 2000 he won an NBA Championship as a member of the Los Angeles Lakers.

Prior to the 2000-01 season Alonzo Mourning was diagnosed with a kidney disease that would require him to need a kidney transplant which he received in 2003.

Although he was not the dominant player that he was before his illness, Mourning would play parts of two seasons with the New Jersey Nets and then go back to the Miami Heat for the last three and a half seasons of his career.

Mario Chalmers was a college basketball star for the University of Kansas and his three point shot with just two seconds left in the 2008 NCAA Championship Game propelled his team to an overtime victory. While with the team he was considered a great three point shooter and defender.
