Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. On January 1, 1958, which player fought three Boston Bruins in succession?

Answer: Henri Richard

Richard, though only 5'7", more than stood his ground that night. First, he hit Boston enforcer Leo Labine with a punch that gave Labine eight stitches in the eyebrow. Jack Bionda came to Labine's rescue, but Richard delivered a punch that nearly rearranged his nose. Finally, Fern Flaman came in to fight Richard in a fairly even match, but it gained Richard a reputation as on of the NHL's toughest players, and earned him respect around the league.
2. On Febuary 1, 1959, what Red Wing great hit Lou Fontinato with a series of punches, rearranging his nose and sending him to the hospital?

Answer: Gordie Howe

Howe was pummeling Eddie Shack when Shack's teammate, Fontinato, came to his rescue. Fontinato hit Howe with three huge punches before Howe retaliated, showing the crowd one of the most one-sided fights ever fought in the NHL.
3. On September 21, 1969, who brought their stick down on Boston enforcer Ted Green's skull, sending him to the hospital?

Answer: Wayne Maki

Green, one of the toughtest players ever in the NHL, met his match that night. After being rushed to the hospital, his life was saved by emergency surgery. Green didn't play again for a year.
4. On December 22, 1992, at Madison Square Garden, Detroit enforcer Bob Probert fought which Rangers player in a "rematch of an earlier bout"?

Answer: Tie Domi

In the previous fight, Domi bloodied Probert's nose. In the rematch, one witness counted 60 punches thrown! Probert was narrowly declared the winner.
5. On March 16, 1947, which two teams were involved in what is quite possibly the largest brawl ever to occur on an NHL rink?

Answer: Montreal Canadiens and NY Rangers

Few brawls like this one were ever witnessed. Some of the simultaneous fights included Ken Reardon vs. Cal Gardner, Rocket Richard vs. Bill Juzda, Bill Durnan vs. Bill Moe, Leo Lamoureux vs. Hal Laycoe, and Butch Bouchard in a one-punch knockout of Bryan Hextall, just to name a few!
