Guzmán has always been a pitcher, but as is practiced in the National League he did have some at bats. As with most pitchers his numbers were not impressive, with a .118 batting average over 38 plate appearances. He struck out 14 times, walked once, had 4 hits and 3 RBIs.
2. Which MLB team was actually the first to sign Guzmán as an amateur free agent?

Answer: Los Angeles Dodgers

He was signed as an amateur free agent by the Dodgers in 1985. He was traded to the Blue Jays in 1987 for Mike Sharperson, an infielder who did have a few good seasons but his career was much shorter than Guzmán's.
3. Juan Guzmán won the rookie of the year award in 1991.

Answer: False

Guzmán was runner-up for the award. The winner of the award was Chuck Knoblauch.

After Toronto, Guzmán played for Baltimore, then Cincinnati, and lastly Tampa Bay, although he only played for 1.2 innings for that team. Of his 10 years in professional baseball, 7.5 were played in Toronto (he was traded to Baltimore part way through his 8th season).
