1. 1981
Answer: Boardman - Boardman, Ohio
Teams from Richmond, Virginia; Gloucester County, New Jersey; and Bassett, California competed with the champions from Boardman Ohio that year. In the first year the competition was called the 13-year-old World Series. Through the first 35 years of the competition, they remained the only team from Ohio to ever win the title.

Answer: Belmont Heights - Tampa, Florida
The team this year featured future major league players Gary Sheffield and Derek Bell.
The tournament expanded to five teams in 1982, adding a region that included Puerto Rico for the first time.
3. 1983
Answer: Jose Maria Rodriguez - Manati, Puerto Rico
In 1983 the fences were moved from 200 feet to 250 feet for the competition, but that didn't slow down the players from hitting a record number of home runs during the week of competition.
Puerto Rico, in just the second year of international play won the title.
4. 1984
Answer: Pearl City - Pearl City, Hawaii
In the first year of competing, the team from Hawaii won the title. There were still just six teams competing at this point. For the 2016 Junior League World Series the field had expanded to 11 regions.
5. 1985
Answer: Tampa Bay - Tampa, Florida
Lights were installed at the field and the first ever night games were played at the JLWS. A team from Michigan (the host state) played in the series for the first time.
6. 1986
Answer: Waldorf - Waldorf, Maryland
Pitcher Bill DeAtley of Maryland pitched the first no-hitter in JLWS history to help his team to the championship. The field expanded again as Mexico joined the fold.
7. 1987
Answer: West Rowland Heights - Rowland Heights, California
A team from Taylor, Michigan, the host city of the tournament qualified for the first time. That team included Jenny Hall, the first woman to ever play in the JLWS.
8. 1988
Answer: Ligas Pequenas - Mexicali, Mexico
Three months before the JLWS was set to start the press box burnt to the ground in an accidental fire. Volunteers worked tirelessly to rebuild it and had everything ready for the opening ceremonies.
A team from Canada played in the series for the first time that year.
9. 1989
Answer: Jose Maria Rodriguez - Manati, Puerto Rico
The winners, from Puerto Rico became the first ever repeat winners, having taken the series in 1983 as well. Due to age restrictions, none of the athletes were the same from the previous team.
10. 1990
Answer: Juan Antonio Bibiloni - Yabucoa, Puerto Rico
For the third time in history a team from Puerto Rico won, but not the same team which had won the year before. It was the first time a team from the same regional tournament had won back-to-back JLWS crowns.
Germany became the first European team to play in the series that season.
