1. 2001
Answer: Aiea, Hawaii
The team from Aiea, Hawaii, with many of the same players from 2000 repeated as champions. They beat Venezuela 6-5 with a come from behind victory.
While the field in Taylor didn't grow, the competition to get there through Latin America exploded. Instead of Mexico and Puerto Rico being the only teams challenging each other every year, that region expanded to eight teams vying for the berth in the JLWS.
Pool play started this season to ensure there wasn't a need for a championship double-header ever again.
2. 2002
Answer: Cartersville, Georgia
ESPN broadcasted the final game as the team from Georgia played a team from Panama in the finals. It was the first year a team from Central America had competed in the games, and the first time Georgia ever had a champion.
3. 2003
Answer: LaMirada, California
A power outage caused a night game to be delayed for the first time in the history of the series. The game was won by LaMirada, California, who went on to win the JLWS that season.
A memorial garden outside of the stadium debuted to honor all of the volunteers who had passed away since the series began in 1981. Khovrino Little League from Moscow, Russia played for the first time in the series.
4. 2004
Answer: Palma Ceia/Bayshore Little League, Tampa, Florida
A hurricane caused the team from Tampa to arrive a day late to the competition as their flights were cancelled. That didn't stop them from striking early and often as they broke nine team and individual records on their way to the title.
5. 2005
Answer: Panama City, Panama
The series expanded to 10 teams for the first time. Panama won its first title. Mexico and Puerto Rico were given automatic bids (in alternating years) into the tournament due to the popularity of baseball in those countries. However, the team that didn't have the automatic bid each year could still win their way in by taking the Latin American title.
6. 2006
Answer: El Campo, Texas
El Campo, Texas, became the first USA Southwest region team to win the title in a 2-1 victory over the Mexican national champs from Guaymas, Sonora.
Texas pitcher Matthew Hamman earned three victories during the week to set the mark for most by a player.
It was the 20th anniversary of the first appearance of a team from Mexico.
7. 2007
Answer: Pearl City Little League, Pearl City, Hawaii
Scott Sato and his son Keanu became the first father-son combo to both play in, and eventually win, the JLWS.
Scott was a member of the 1984 championship team, and a coach on the 2007 team his son played on.
8. 2008
Answer: Pabao Little League, Willemstad, Curacao, Netherlands Antilles
This was the first year the JLWS was won by a team from Curacao, which made its debut in 2008. Curacao, the Latin America champions, became the first team from the Netherlands Antilles and the first team from the Caribbean to win the world championship.
They beat a team from Hawaii 5-2. England played in the JLWS for the first time.
9. 2009
Answer: Mountain View Little League, Scottsdale, Arizona
Italy played in the series for the first time. Aruba (the runners-up) set a record by beating Canada by 23 runs in a preliminary round game.
The all-stars from Arizona were undefeated for the entire season.
10. 2010
Answer: Chung-Ching Junior Little League, Taipei City, Chinese Taipei
Chinese Taipei made its debut in the 30th annual JLWS, and drew some of the largest crowds in the history of the series.
For the first time the entire series was live streamed on the internet for people who couldn't make it to Taylor to watch.
11. 2011
Answer: Palma Ceia/Bayshore Little League, Tampa, Florida
A team from Chinese Taipei made the finals again, but fell 2-1 to the team from Tampa.
The team from Tampa matched its 2004 counter-parts with an undefeated week at the JLWS, making them 12-0 lifetime in the series.
12. 2012
Answer: Rockledge, Florida
The final score ended at 12-10 when Florida scored two runs in the bottom of the 8th and final inning to best Aruba.
Florida had seven players earn hits in the game.
13. 2013
Answer: Chin Ming Junior Little League, Taipei City, Chinese Taipei
The team from Chinese Taipei made short work of the boys from Tyler, Texas with a 9-1 win in the championship game.
It was the second title for Chinese Taipei in three finals appearances and the start of a three-year run of titles for that country.
14. 2014
Answer: Chung-Shan Junior High, Tai Chung, Chinese Taipei
A different team from Chinese Taipei earned its way to Taylor for the JLWS, but the results were much the same. The team from Taipei once again bested a team from Texas for the crown.
15. 2015
Answer: Chung-Shan Junior High, Tai Chung, Chinese Taipei
Chinese Taipei won its third title in a row, and it was the second title in a row for the Chung-Shan Junior High team. This year they bested a team from Frederick County, Virginia 12-0 for the title.
