Klinsmann played for Stuttgart from 1984 to 1989. He made 155 appearances and scored 79 times. During that time, Klinsmann helped Stuttgart to the 1986 German League Cup final, was the top goalscorer in the Bundesliga during the 1987-88 season, named German Footballer of the Year in 1988, and went to the 1988-89 UEFA Cup finals before losing to Diego Maradona's Napoli.
