Answer: crimson

The main colour of the club is crimson. However, when AEL was formed the initial colour was black. It was changed soon after because there were too many teams in Greece with this colour.
2. When was AEL founded?

Answer: 1964

The club was founded on 17th March 1964 as Athlitiki Enosi Larissas 1964 (Athletic Union of Larissa 1964), or AEL for short. The new club was a merger of four local teams - Aris Larissas, Iraklis Larissas, Toxotis Larissas and Larissaikos.
3. Which is the club's nickname?

Answer: Queen of the Lowlands

The nick name of AEL is Vasilissa tou Kambou (Queen of the Lowlands). This is because of the great football playing style of the team, especially in 1980s when the club won its first two trophies (Greek Cup in 1985 and Greek first division title in 1988). It is also known as Vyssini (The Crimsons, their shirt colours) and Alogo (The Horse, the team logo).

The first home of AEL was the Alkazar stadium. Alkazar means castle in the Arabic language. This stadium was built in 1932. The first match of AEL at this ground was on 7th June 1964 when they beat Panionios 2-1 at a friendly match. The record home at this stadium was 18,493 vs. Panathinaikos on 27th December 1987.
The team moved to AEL FC Arena in 2010.

In 1984-1985 season the Crimsons participated in their first Cup Winners' Cup campaign. In the 1st round they played against Siófok (Hungary) and beat them 3-1 in aggregate. In the 2nd round AEL they weathered Servette (Switzerland) and beat them 3-1 in aggregate, too. However, in the quarter-final the Greek team lost by Dynamo Moscow (Russia) 1-0 in aggregate.

Although AEL lost the Greek Cup final in 1984 to Panathinaikos, they qualified for the Cup Winners' Cup as Panathinaikos had also won the Greek first division title and thus qualified to play in the European Cup -- aka the European Champions' Cup (now the UEFA Champions League).

The biggest rival of the Queen of the Lowlands (AEL's nickname) is Olympiakos Volou. The matches between the two teams are always special and the fans of either side are not that friendly to each other. Other rivals of AEL are Niki Volou and PAOK.

The first participation of AEL in the top division of Greece was the 1973-74 season, when they finished in 9th position. They were promoted when they finished champions of one of the three geographical Second Divisions in 1972-73.

AEL won the final 2-1 vs. Panathinaikos. The Slovakian player Jozef Kozlej scored the first goal in the 3rd minute and made the thousands fans of AEL celebrate. The goal that made them be completely crazy was the second one by Henry Antchouet in 82th minute.
