Leeds City were formed in 1904. In 1919 they were forcibly dissolved for financial irregularities and expelled from the Second Division after 8 games of the 1919-20 season. The players and other assets of the club were sold-off at auction in October 1919.

A new club, Leeds United, was established in the same month and, less than a year later, they were elected to the Second Division of The Football League.

The man is a legend which is epitomised by the fact he has a life sized statue dedicated to him outside the Elland Road ground. His death in 1997 was one of shock across the football world. Bremner was the small mans friend standing at 5ft 7in. He was rejected by Arsenal and Chelsea in his formative years for being too small, it's probably an indication to the man's stature that Leeds United were one of Europe's forces during his career spanning 17 seasons from 1960 to 1976.
