Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Famously Michael Jordan was cut from the varsity squad his sophomore year of high school. What number did he wear when he finally moved up to varsity as a junior?

Answer: 23

Michael Jordan had no real great reason to pick 23 at that time. His older brother was on the team and wore #45, so #23 was about half of that number. He averaged a triple-double (29.2 points, 11.6 rebounds, and 10.1 assists) his senior year.
2. After his senior season in high school, Jordan moved on to the McDonald's All-American game. What was his jersey number for that contest?

Answer: 23

Jordan played in the game in 1981. He set a then-record for scoring with 30 points, including the game winning free throw as his East squad beat the West 96-95, but was snubbed and didn't get the MVP award. Jordan had 6 steals and and 4 assists in the game.
3. Michael Jordan played in both the 1984 and 1992 Olympic games. Did he wear the same jersey number both times?

Answer: yes

Jordan hadn't yet entered the NBA when he won his first gold medal, and was a Superstar in the middle of one of the greatest stretches of a career ever when he won his second. He averaged 17.1 points a game in 1984 and 14.9 points a game in 1992. He wore jersey #9 on both occasions.
4. Wearing #23 in a blue and white jersey, what college did Michael Jordan win a national championship with?

Answer: University of North Carolina

Jordan played for Dean Smith for three seasons at UNC. He won a national championship, was named a consensus All-American twice and was named college basketball player of the year while in college. He majored in cultural geography while in school.
5. What number did Michael Jordan wear for every game played in his rookie season with the Chicago Bulls?

Answer: 23

Jordan wore #23 for the majority of his career, but it was just one of three different jersey numbers he wore in NBA regular season games. Up until his first retirement at the end of the 1993 season he wore the number for all but one game (when he wore #12).
6. For a single game in the 1990 season Michael Jordan wore a jersey with no nameplate and which number on it?

Answer: 12

For one game in the 1990 season he donned #12, with no nameplate on the back. The game was in Orlando, on Valentine's Day. Jordan's #23 jersey went missing, whether lost or stolen, it was never officially confirmed. The only backup jersey the Bulls had with them was a #12.
7. After winning a third NBA championship in a row in 1993, Michael Jordan chose to retire and pick up minor league baseball. What number did he wear for the entire 1994 baseball season?

Answer: 45

Jordan was on top of the world as a basketball player. He won the finals MVP for the third straight time, had won 7 straight scoring crowns and three league championships.

A few weeks after the season his father was murdered. He chose to retire and pursue a baseball career, something his father had always wanted to see him do. He played for the Birmingham Barons (a minor league affiliate of the Chicago White Sox).
8. Michael returned to the NBA in 1995, after he retired and a stint as a baseball player. He wore #45 since his original jersey number was retired. How many games did he play with that jersey on his back?

Answer: 22

Jordan returned to the NBA for the final 17 games of the 1994-95 regular season. He wore #45 during that stretch, and for the first 5 playoff games, before switching back to his old number #23. The Bulls were fined $25,000 for the unannounced jersey switch, and $5,000 per game for each game he wore it over the rest of the playoffs that season.
9. During his hiatus from the NBA Michael Jordan made a movie, "Space Jam" (released in 1996) along with the Looney Toons. Did he wear his iconic #23 in the film?

Answer: yes

Jordan played for the Toon Squad against the evil Monstars in the film. Fellow NBA players Charles Barkley, Larry Johnson and Patrick Ewing also appeared in the film.
10. Micahel Jordan retired for a second time in 1998. In 2001 he made a second return to the NBA. He wore #23 while suiting up for which team over the final two years of his career?

Answer: Washington Wizards

Jordan had retired following the 1997-98 season. He returned to the league for the 2001-02 season, but first he had to sell his ownership stake in the team. Players are not allowed to own the team they play on.

Jordan played 60 games before a knee injury sidelined him for the season. He lead the team with 22.1 points per game that year. In the 2002-03 season Jordan played in all 82 games and averaged 20 points per game, the lowest total of his career.
