1. In which year in the decade was the first Cy Young pitching award given out?

Answer: 1956

The first Cy Young was awarded to Don Newcombe of the Brooklyn Dodgers for his 27-7 record. Baseball created the award in honor of pitching great Cy Young, who won 511 career games. Young died in 1955.
2. Which team went to the most World Series in the 1950s?

Answer: Yankees

The other teams listed only went to one World Series in the decade. The Yankees went to an amazing eight appearances, winning six times. They lost to the Dodgers in 1955, then to the Braves in 1957.
3. Which player had a tremendous decade, and won three season MVPs?

Answer: Yogi Berra

The others didn't take the MVP in the decade. Berra's 1950s was one of the greatest spans for any player in Major League Baseball history. The New York Yankee won the MVP in 1951, 1954, and 1955. He finished third in the balloting in 1950, fourth in 1952, second in 1953, and second in 1956. Yogi came close to winning an unprecedented six MVPs in six seasons. An easy Hall of Fame pick, the hall took him in 1972.

Gaedel was a publicity stunt created by owner Bill Veeck. He walked on four pitches, mainly because Tiger pitcher Bob Cain was laughing so hard. Eddie gave way to pinch-runner Jim Delsing. Major League Baseball changed their rules so this type of incident would not happen again.
5. Which team won 111 games in their 154-game season?

Answer: Cleveland Indians

In 1954, the Indians went a tremendous 111-43 under the guidance of manager Al Lopez. They had two 23-game winners in Bob Lemon and Early Wynn, and Larry Doby hit 32 home runs for the team. Unfortunately, the New York Giants stopped the Indians in their tracks in the World Series, defeating them four games to none.
6. Which of these Hall of Fame greats was inducted into the hall in the 1950s?

Answer: Joe DiMaggio

The others were inducted in the late 1960s. DiMaggio was inducted into the hall in 1955, along with Dazzy Vance, Ted Lyons, Ray Schalk, Gabby Hartnett, and Frank 'Home Run' Baker. Nicknamed the 'Yankee Clipper', Joe played from 1936-1951 in the pinstripes.

He won three MVP awards in 1939, 1941, and 1947. DiMaggio took home nine World Series rings in 10 attempts. He died in 1999 at the age of 84.

Answer: Johnny Podres

The others weren't with the Dodgers in 1955. The Dodgers won their first-ever World Series in 1955 under the managing of Walter Alston. Podres threw two complete game wins to help the Dodgers in a four games to three win over the Yankees.

The Brooklyn Dodgers and New York Giants moved to the west coast in 1958. The St. Louis Browns became the Baltimore Orioles in 1954. The Boston Braves moved from Boston to Milwaukee in 1953. The Philadelphia Athletics moved to Kansas City in 1955.
9. Which player hit the 'shot heard round the world' in 1951?

Answer: Bobby Thomson

It was the playoff for the National League title after the Dodgers and Giants tied at the end of the season. Thomson's shot off Dodger pitcher Ralph Branca, put the Giants in the World Series. The Giants would lose that World Series to the Yankees, four games to two.
10. Which of these players was a Rookie of the Year Award winner in the 1950s?

Answer: Willie Mays

The others were all Rookie of the Year Award winners in the late 1960s. Mays of the Giants won the award in 1951. He went on to win two MVP awards in 1954 and 1965. The 'Say Hey Kid' was the second player in baseball history to hit 600 home runs, and retired with 660 big ones.
