In 2000-01 the ABA reformed. It was a different ownership, and basically a new league altogether. The first ever champion of that league was from Detroit. The Detroit Dogs posted a 24-20 regular season record to win the Eastern Division. They were the only team in the east with a winning record. Three of the Western Division teams finished with better records.
