Goeters, who had never competed in Nascar before, won the pole for the historic event. Goeters had a strong car in the event, leading for the first 24 laps before making his first pit stop of the race. With 15 laps to go, the engine in his #66 Brewco Ford blew and he finished a dismal 38th.
