Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. The stableford scoring system rewards aggressive play.

Answer: True

Stableford scoring rewards a birdie with 2 points, yet a bogey only subtracts 1 point. So in theory, it's better to go for a birdie on risky holes. With Stableford scoring, you want to have the most points. Pars are worth 0, Birdies are worth 2, Eagles are worth 5, and Bogeys are worth -1.
2. When addressing the ball for a tee shot, you accidentally tap the ball and it falls off the tee. At this point, you must play the ball as it lies.

Answer: False

A stroke is only counted when the player intentionally swings at the ball.
3. Which PGA Major tournament is always played at the same course?

Answer: The Masters

Played every year at Augusta National, in Georgia.
4. A double-eagle is rarer than a hole in one.

Answer: True

There are many more hole-in-one shots than double eagles, as recorded by USGA statistics.
5. What is the name for a double-eagle?

Answer: Albatross

Albatross was informally a label from the turn of the century.
6. What is a "sandy"?

Answer: Illinois

Held in the Chicago area.
8. A player can replace his/her ball with a different one while in the middle of playing a hole if it is covered in mud, as long as the other players in the group agree.

Answer: False

A ball cannot be replaced while playing a hole, unless it is physically cut or out of shape.
9. A player hits on to the green. A seagull flies in, picks up the ball, flies off with it, and drops it into the water. How is this handled?

Answer: The player can place a new ball in the approximate position

This has happened several times at Doral in Florida.
10. Not even one hole of The Western Open was ever played where?

Answer: Kemper Lakes Country Club

In 1987, a huge flood forced tournament officals to play some holes at Oak Brook, adjacent to Butler National.
