Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. In the very first quarter in the very first game of the 2009 season, Tennessee Titans quarterback Kerry Collins threw a deep pass. However, this ended up being the first interception of the season. Which Pittsburgh Steeler made an improbable one-handed grab to pick him off?

Answer: Troy Polamalu

Polamalu would then go on to miss 11 games in the season due to a knee injury, while his interception helped to begin an 0-6 start to the season for the Titans. The Steelers won the game 16-13 with a overtime field goal.
2. In Week 3, Detroit ended the longest losing streak in the history of their franchise with a 19-14 win over Washington. Which Redskins player did they stop on their own 24-yard line after a desperation lateral play by the Skins to attempt to win the game?

Answer: Ladell Betts

With 8 seconds left in the game, Redskins QB Jason Campbell threw a pass to Santana Moss, who threw it back to Antwaan Randle El, who then passed it on to Betts who was tackled 24 yards short. The ecstatic Lions fans rushed on to the field, celebrating their first win since 2007.
3. In Week 6, Tom Brady's Patriots destroyed the Tennessee Titans, winning 59-0. Brady set an NFL record for most touchdowns in a single quarter during the second quarter. How many did he throw?

Answer: 5

Even more amazing was the fact that the Patriots didn't even have the ball to begin the quarter. Brady's touchdowns came from throws to Randy Moss(2), Wes Welker(2), and Kevin Faulk. He also threw a touchdown in the third quarter to Moss again to tie his career high.

The 59-0 win set records as one of the biggest victories in NFL history, the most total yards in a game in franchise history, and the largest halftime lead (45-0) ever. Titans quarterbacks Kerry Collins and Vince Young could only throw for minus seven yards and two interceptions.
4. In Week 8, the Miami Dolphins traveled to Giants Stadium to take on the Jets. Ted Ginn Jr. set a record for 100+ yard kickoff return touchdowns in a game with two, both in the third quarter. His first return went for 100 yards, but his second one went for more. How many yards did he sprint to get his team 6 points?

Answer: 101 Yards

Ginn Jr. was the first person to return two kickoffs for touchdowns in a single quarter since 1957. His runs totaled to almost double his teams total yards (201-104), and his 14 points (extra points included) as well as a fumble return touchdown meant that Miami needed only one offensive touchdown to secure a 30-25 victory.
5. In Week 10, Maurice Jones-Drew made a surprising move which left everyone one in New York gasping. What did he do?

Answer: He took a kneel on the one yard line to let time elapse instead of scoring

Jones-Drew's run allowed Jacksonville to take two kneels and use a time-out with 0:03 left to kick a 19-yard field goal to win the game 24-22. The Jets were purposely trying to let Jones-Drew score, but he out-smarted them by taking a knee at the 1.
6. Week 11 saw the Detroit Lions playing the Cleveland Browns. Matthew Stafford sets an NFL rookie record for most passing yards in a single game with 422. Which rookie tight end did he throw a game-winning touchdown to with nothing left on the clock?

Answer: Brandon Pettigrew

Stafford threw a desperation pass from the Cleveland 32 on the previous play, but he was picked off. Just to make it worse, he was tackled and dislocated his left shoulder. However, the pass was called back for pass interference with 0:00 on the clock, and he stepped up to give an ice-cool pass to fellow rookie Pettigrew. All while in tremendous pain.
7. Week 15 contained the best passing and rushing days of the season. Which AFC running back gave a surprising performance and ran for 286 yards against Kansas City?

Answer: Jerome Harrison

Harrison's yards and three touchdowns managed to overshadow the amazing feat by Browns kick returner Joshua Cribbs, of getting the most kickoff return touchdowns ever with two on the day. It gave him a career total of eight, two ahead of everyone else. It was a truly amazing day for the Browns in their 41-34 win.
8. In Week 15, a great individual passing performance was given by an AFC quarterback. Which former Super Bowl winning quarterback threw for 503 yards against the Green Bay Packers?

Answer: Ben Roethlisberger

He became the 10th player ever to get 500 yards in a game. He threw three touchdowns including a last second effort to Mike Wallace to win the game 37-36. He had also thrown a touchdown to Wallace on the very first drive of the game. He set a season high and broke both his career game high and career season highs with the 503 he threw on the day.
9. Week 17 with the Titans. Chris Johnson had 1999 yards and was set to become only the sixth player to reach the 2000 rushing yard season mark. He ran left, and gained how many yards to break 2000?

Answer: 4 Yards

He had a 62-yard run, but it was called back for a holding penalty against Ahmad Hall, the Titans fullback. Johnson ended the day with 2006 yards on the season. If the touchdown run had been successful, he would have had a shot at breaking the single season rushing record owned by Eric Dickerson of 2105 yards.
10. During Week 17 there was a game played later than all the others, as well as being the final game of the season. It was played in one of the NFLs most recognized stadiums. To which stadium did the Cincinnati Bengals travel to for its final game?

Answer: Giants Stadium

On the 3rd of January 2010 the Jets played host to the Bengals and demolished them 37-0. Giants Stadium was the home field of both the New York Giants and the New York Jets. It's 80,242 capacity made it the second largest stadium in 2009 behind FedEx Field, the home of the Washington Redskins.
