Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. A player dunks the ball and then slaps the back board while still hanging on to the rim. He lands on the ground to be immediately given a technical. Is this the right call?

Answer: Yes

Contrary to popular belief, it is a technical foul to slap the backboard.
2. Player A dribbles the ball with 2 seconds left on the clock. He throws up at shot at the buzzer, and is fouled with no time left on the clock. The referee calls the foul, and everybody gets in position for a free throw in their respective boxes. Is this the correct call?

Answer: No

Although time has expired, the player shoots a free throw, but no defensive players are allowed to line up.
3. Player A runs dribbles down the court near the sideline. The referee blows the whistle and says Player A is out of bounds. Player A looks down and sees that his shoelace is laying across the out of bounds line, but the rest of his shoe is in bounds. Is this the right call?

Answer: Yes

The out of bounds rule states, that if any part of the player is touching on the floor across the line, then he is out. Even a shoe lace can lead to an out of bounds call.
4. Are coaches and assistant coaches allowed to wear bow ties?

Answer: Yes

The rule of dress for coaches and assistant coaches is only that they must be wearing a suit coat or sports coat. Even though it is very rare for a coach to wear a bow tie, it is allowed.
5. Player A is standing under his own basket out of bounds. He attempts to throw a full court pass to Player B. The ball passes Player B without hitting or coming in contact with any player. The ball continues to go out of bounds. The referee awards the ball to the other team under their own basket. Is this the right call?

Answer: No

In the event of a throw-in, not touching any players and proceeding to go out of bounds, the ball is awarded from where the inbounder threw it from.
