1. Who was the 2005 Nextel Cup Champion?

Answer: Tony Stewart

After a slow start to the season, Stewart won 5 of a seven race stretch including the Brickyard 400 to start the chase 1st place. Though he did not win a race in the final 10 races he was consistent enough to take home his 2nd championship in four years.
2. Which driver had the most victories in the 2005 season?

Answer: Greg Biffle

Biffle won 6 races including the final race at Homestead.
3. How many drivers scored their first career Nextel Cup win in 2005?

Answer: 3

2005 saw three new faces grace victory lane. Kasey Kahne who had a history for finishing second finally broke into the win column with a victory at the spring race at Richmond. Kyle Busch, younger brother to 2004 Champion Kurt Busch, won 2 races at Phoenix and California, both were the fall races for both Tracks. Carl Edwards won 4 races including two of the last four races and both races at Atlanta.
4. Who was the 2005 Rookie of the Year?

Answer: Kyle Busch

Though finishing 20th in the final point standings, Kyle won two races and proved that he is for real. Look out big brother!

For the third straight year, Ryan Newman led the series in poles with 8. Other drivers winning poles: Elliot Sadler(4), Tony Stewart(3), Drivers with two poles: Carl Edwards, Matt Kenseth, Jeff Gordon, Kevin Harvick, Kasey Kahne. Jamie McMurray, Dale Jarrett, Joe Nemecheck, Brian Vickers, Kyle Busch, Micheal Waltrip, Scott Riggs, and Denny Hamlin had one pole each.

The wins were spread out more than 2004. The top 10 in the final point standings won 26 of the 36 races in the 2005 season. Of the 10 chase contenders only Rusty Wallace failed to win a race.

Like Indy 500 champ Helio Castroneves had done a few years prior, Tony climbed the fence up to the starter stand during his victory celebration. His crew followed suit and climbed the fence next to him.

Answer: Jeff Gordon

2005 was considered a disappointment for Jeff Gordon and his crew. Gordon and Hendrick Motorsports crew had a great final 10 races, including a win at Martinsville. Gordon had four championships to his credit still.
