The full formula for a quarterback's rating is quite complex with ranges between 0 and 158.3 possible. In order for a player to have a perfect 158.3 passer rating for an entire season he would have to have at a minimum 77.5% completion percentage, 12.5 average yards per pass attempt, 11.875% of passes thrown resulting in a touchdown, and no interceptions. For season ratings quarterbacks must have at least 100 attempts and for individual games at least 10 attempts.

Dan Fouts' epic game came in a 43-24 win over the St. Louis Cardinals. Fouts was a prolific passer throughout most of his career and he was the first NFL quarterback to throw for 4,000 yards in three straight seasons. After his playing career was over Fouts became a color analyst for NFL games on CBS.

Terry Bradshaw's final stats for the game included completing 14 of 18 passes for 264 yards and three touchdowns. Surprisingly the powerful Steelers lost their next game against the Oakland Raiders who went on to win the Super Bowl. Similar to Fouts, Bradshaw became an NFL analyst and host on television after his playing career.

Morton's perfect quarterback rating game occurred early in the season in a 42-24 win. Craig Morton's career lasted 18 seasons with the final six seasons being with the Denver Broncos. Morton's successor at quarterback for the Denver Broncos was the great John Elway who played his entire 16 year career with the team and had his number 7 retired.

Answer: Joe Montana and Steve Young

Steve Young's perfect quarterback rating game came on October 22, 1989 against the New England Patriots and Joe Montana's occurred three weeks later against the Atlanta Falcons. Not surprisingly, both Joe Montana and Steve Young were inducted to the Hall of Fame after they retired. Steve Young was especially prolific in regard to passer rating as he led the league in the statistic six different seasons.

Answer: Neither player started the game in which they had a perfect quarterback rating.

Hebert's game came on September 12, 1993 against the Atlanta Falcons in a 34-31 loss. Hebert didn't come into the game until the fourth quarter when his team was far behind. Buck's perfect passer rating game was on October 17, 1993 against the Pittsburgh Steelers in a 37-14 loss in which Buck was not the starting quarterback.

Not to discount either player's performance, but sometimes when a game is a blowout the winning team's defense will allow opposing quarterbacks better statistics than when the game is close.

Drew Bledsoe's perfect game came in just his 11th start and it was in a 38-0 victory over the Indianapolis Colts. Drew Bledsoe's career lasted 14 seasons and he threw for over 44,000 yards and 250 touchdowns and he was selected to the Pro Bowl four times.

Peyton Manning played for the Indianapolis Colts from 1998 to 2011 after which he became the starting quarterback for the Denver Broncos. In addition to his four perfect rating games, Manning threw for over 69,000 yards and 500 touchdowns during his stellar career.

Roethlisberger's historic games came only six weeks apart. The game against the Ravens came on Monday Night Football and he had five touchdowns on just 16 attempts. Roethlisberger also had a perfect quarterback rating game against the Tennessee Titans in his Super Bowl winning season of 2005.

Answer: Oakland Raiders

Foles' game came in a 49-20 win by the Eagles in which he had over 400 yards passing and threw for seven touchdowns. Smith's perfect game against the Raiders was in a 56-31 win by the Chiefs in which he had more touchdowns (5) than incompletions (3). Over the course of the lamentable season the Raiders were outscored 453 to 322 and the team lost its final six games.
