Even the undefeated 1972 Miami Dolphins played that year's AFC Championship game on the road.

The Vikes only loss that year was at Tampa Bay 27-24. The Vikings scored an NFL record 556 points that year, and seemed destined for Super Bowl glory before they were knocked off by the Atlanta Falcons in the NFC Championship game, 30-27 in overtime.
