1. Take the number of homers Roger Maris hit in his biggest year and subtract it from the year. To that answer, add Mark McGwire's homer total for 1998. Divide that answer by the number of teams that were in Ohio State University's conference in 2002, NOT including Ohio State. What's your answer? Hint

Question 2 of 10
2. Take the number of events in the Modern Pentathlon and add the number of regular-season grand slams Jim Palmer allowed during his major league career. Multiply that answer by the number of players on the court during a doubles tennis match. Divide that answer by the number of "Horsemen" Notre Dame had. And your answer? Hint

Question 3 of 10
3. How many strokes would an eagle be on a par five hole? Multiply that answer by the maximum number of sets in a women's singles match at the US Open tennis tournament. To that answer, add the number of points in a perfect game in an ABC tournament. Multiply that answer by Babe Ruth's uniform number. What is your answer? Hint

Question 4 of 10
4. Take the year the Olympics were first held in Los Angeles and add the next year they were held in Los Angeles. From that answer, subtract the number of feet between home plate and first base. Then multiply that answer by the number of homers hit by one player in one day in the Major Leagues. What's your answer? Hint

Question 5 of 10
5. Calculate the number of minutes in a ten round professional boxing match, from starting bell for first round to bell ending tenth round. Multiply that answer by the number Willis McGahee wore for the University of Miami Hurricanes in 2002. Divide by the number of tournaments a pro golfer must win to score a Grand Slam. Multiply by Stan Musial's uniform number with the Cardinals. What's your answer? Hint

Question 6 of 10
6. Take the number of miles in the New York Marathon, rounded down to the nearest mile (i.e. don't count the 385 yards). Multiply that answer by the number of periods in an NHL game, without overtime. Add the uniform number Jim Otto wore with the Oakland Raiders. Add the number of points Wilt Chamberlain scored in his highest scoring NBA game. What is your answer?

Take the number of miles in the NYC Marathon, not counting the extra 385 yards. (Just use the round number of miles.) Multiply that by the number of games in a standard game of ABC bowling.

Hint

Question 7 of 10
7. Take the number of teams that played in the NBA in season 2002-03. Subtract the number of runners on an NCAA track relay team. Multiply that answer by Yogi Berra's uniform number with the Yankees. Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Take the number of homers Roger Maris hit in his biggest year and subtract it from the year. To that answer, add Mark McGwire's homer total for 1998. Divide that answer by the number of teams that were in Ohio State University's conference in 2002, NOT including Ohio State. What's your answer?

Answer: 197

61 homers for Maris subtracted from year 1961 = 1900. Add McGwire's 70 homers and you get 1970. Divide by 10 teams in the Big Ten other than OSU and you get 197.

Answer: 5

5 Pentathlon events plus 0 grand slams allowed by Palmer = 5. Then 4 players in doubles times 5 = 20. 20 divided by 4 Horsemen = 5. The Pentathlon events involve horseback riding, pistol accuracy, swordsmanship, swimming, and running. The Notre Dame players were four outstanding linemen whose intensity reminded sportswriter Grantland Rice of the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse: Famine, War, Pestilence, and Death, as mentioned in the Bible's Book of Revelation.

Answer: 927

An eagle is 2 under par or 3 on a par five. 3 multiplied by 3 matches maximum for a women's singles match gives 9. Add 300 points for a perfect game and you get 309. Multiply that by the Babe's number 3. Result: 927
4. Take the year the Olympics were first held in Los Angeles and add the next year they were held in Los Angeles. From that answer, subtract the number of feet between home plate and first base. Then multiply that answer by the number of homers hit by one player in one day in the Major Leagues. What's your answer?

Answer: 19130

1932 plus 1984 = 3916. Subtract 90 feet you get 3826. Multiply 3826 by 5 and you get 19130. Stan Musial of the Cardinals set a record of 5 for homers in a day, in a doubleheader. Nate Colbert of the Padres has also achieved this feat. Oddity: as a young fan, Colbert attended the doubleheader where Musial hit his, making him the only person present for both!

Answer: 117

Boxing rounds are 3 minutes with rests of 1 minute but there's no rest period at the end of round 10, so the total is 39. Multiply that by McGahee's number 2 to get 78. Divide by 4 tournaments in a Grand Slam and you get 19.5. Multiply by Musial's number 6 and the final answer is 117.

Answer: 178

Without the extra yards, the Marathon is 26 miles. Multiply that by the 3 periods in an NHL game and you get 78. Add 00 for Jim Otto's number and you still have 78. Add 100 points for Wilt and final answer is 178. Otto was a great center for the Raiders, and the 00 represented the two letter O's in his name.

He never missed a regular season game during his pro career, appearing in 210 straight. Wilt scored his hundred for the Philadelphia Warriors against the NY Knicks on March 12, 1962, in, of all places, Hershey, PA. Guess the guys were hungry for some chocolate! The Warriors won the game, 169-147.
7. Take the number of teams that played in the NBA in season 2002-03. Subtract the number of runners on an NCAA track relay team. Multiply that answer by Yogi Berra's uniform number with the Yankees. Then multiply that answer by the number of downs a Canadian Football League team gets to advance 10 yards for a first down. What's your answer?

Answer: 600

29 NBA teams minus four relay runners gives 25. 25 times Yogi's 8 = 200. Then multiply by 3 Canadian downs and you have 600.
8. Take the maximum number of total, everyone, men on the field in uniform during an NFL game, and multiply that by the number of players on a side in Major League Soccer. Divide that by the number of Super Bowl victories for the New York Jets during the 1960s and 1970s. Then multiply that answer by the number of Super Bowl losses for the Jets during the 1960s and 1970s. And your answer is?

Answer: 0

29 men on the football field including 22 players and 7 officials when the max seven-man crew is used. Multiply that by 11 soccer players on a side and get 319. Divide that by 1 Jets Super Bowl win during the 60s and 70s and you still have 319. Multiply that by 0 Jets Super Bowl losses and you still have 0. On January 12th, 1969, the Jets beat the Baltimore Colts 16 to 7 in Super Bowl III.

They became the first AFL team to win one, and they hadn't been back by the end of the 1990s.
9. Take the year Babe Ruth hit his alleged "called-shot" homer in the World Series. Subtract the year Ruth hit 60 homers. Then multiply by Wayne Gretzky's uniform number with the Edmonton Oilers. What is your answer?

Answer: 495

The "called shot" happened (or didn't happen) in 1932 in the World Series against the Cubs, won by New York in 4 games. Ruth hit 60 in 1927, subtracted from 1932 gives you 5. Multiply by Gretzky's 99 and get 495.
10. Calculate par for an entire PGA tour event on a par 71 course. From that, subtract the number of World Championships held simultaneously by boxer Henry Armstrong. Subtract from that answer the number of Cy Young awards won by Don Newcombe. Divide that answer by the number of gold medals won by Mark Spitz in the 1972 Olympics. What is your answer?

Answer: 40

PGA events are 4 rounds, so total par on a par 71 course is 284. Armstrong held 3 titles at once, subtract that from 284 and get 281. Subtract Newcombe's 1 Cy Young and you have 280. Divide by Spitz's 7 medals and final answer is 40. Newcombe won the first Cy Young, in 1956, when only one award was given in the Majors.

He went 27 and 7 for the Brooklyn Dodgers that year and won the NL MVP as well. Armstrong held the featherweight, welterweight, and lightweight crowns at the same time in 1938. Soon after Mark Spitz won his seventh medal in swimming, the attack on the Israeli team took place in which all their athletes were killed. Since Spitz was Jewish he was hurriedly flown back from Munich to the US. Hope you enjoyed my quiz. See you next time. Mickey.
