Earl Anthony is credited by most as being the greatest bowler of the 20th century. He won 43 titles between 1970 and 1983 and was voted bowler of the year six times. He is credited with increasing the popularity of bowling in the USA.

He was inducted into the Hall of Fame the first year it was open, Babe Ruth was elected the same year. Babe Ruth (1895-1948) was a left-handed rightfielder who played 22 seasons of which 14 were spent with the New York Yankees. He was known for his home-run hitting skills. Jackie Robinson (1919-1972) was the first black man to play in Major League Baseball.

He debuted in 1947 and he was chosen Rookie of the Year at the end of his first season. When he was elected into the Hall of Fame in 1962, Major League Baseball universally retired his number (this meant that his number "42" jersey was retired by every team).

Dick Button was an American Olympic champion in figure skating. During the 1948 Winter Olympics he became the first skater to successfully land the double axel jump in competition. Then, in 1952, he became the first skater to land a triple jump of any kind in competition.

He was an innovative skater who helped create new moves and helped increase the popularity of figure skating in the USA.

Pete Maravich played guard in the NBA from 1970-1980. He was drafted by the Atlanta Hawks but also played for the New Orleans Jazz and the Boston Celtics. Injuries shortened his professional career, and he died at the age of 40 of an undiagnosed heart condition while playing a game of basketball with friends. He was inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in 1987.

Edison Arantes do Nascimento, also known as Pele, is considered by many to be one of the greatest soccer players to ever play the game. He played on the Brazilian National Team from 1957-1971. He won his first World Cup at the age of 17. After his athletic career was over, he embarked on an acting and music career. He was inducted into the National Soccer Hall of Fame in 1993.

Rugby is a wonderful sport that uses a ball that is shaped similar to the ball used in American football. It is not a perfect sphere like a tennis ball, but rather it tapers at two ends. American football evolved from rugby which can be seen when both games are played. Rugby is a full-contact sport played without the pads seen in American football.

In both games, points are scored by getting the ball past the opponents goal line. Both games feature the kicking of field goals for points. Rugby is one of the most popular sports in many countries of the world, including England, New Zealand, and Australia, just to name a few.

Answer: Neil Bonnett

For 18 years Neil Bonnett was one of NASCAR's premier drivers; he won 18 races including the first ever NASCAR race that was won outside of the North American continent (Australia 1988). He raced in 362 Nascar Sprint Cup Series events and finished in the top ten 156 times.

In 2001 he was posthumousy inducted into the International Motorsports Hall of Fame. He also appeared in the film "Stroker Ace" (1983) and "Days of Thunder" (1990). While practising for the Daytona 500 in 1994, he crashed into the wall after one of his tires failed, and was killed on impact.

As these three men are all noted jockeys, I would have to go to a racecourse to watch them ply their trade. Horse racing is popular all over the world. Being a jockey is one of the most dangerous athletic occupations that there is in the world of sports. Dick Francis (1920-2010) was a famous English steeplechase jockey who won over 350 races and was at one time the jockey to Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother. Eddie Arcaro (1916-1997) was an American Thoroughbred jockey who was, at the time of his death, the only rider to have won the U.S. Triple Crown twice.

He retired with 4,779 total career wins. John or Johnny Letts (b. 1943) was an Australian jockey and won over 2,300 races before he retired. He won the Melbourne Cup twice on Piping Lane in 1972 and then again on Beldale Ball in 1980.

Most tennis courts are either grass, clay or hard acrylic courts. There are no marble tennis courts. The four championship games that must be played to win the Grand Slam of Tennis are all different types of courts. At one time grass courts were the most common type of tennis court, but have become rare due to high maintenance costs and are the type of court you have to play on at Wimbledon.

The Australian Open is played on Plexicushion, a type of acrylic court (played on grass up to 1987). The French Open is played on clay courts.
