Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Norwich City FC famously play in yellow and green, but what colours did the team sport on their shirts when they were formed in 1902?

Answer: Blue and White

The team's original shirts were blue and white halves (green and yellow colours were adopted in 1907). The original colour scheme was reproduced in 2002 as part of the centenary celebrations and worn in a pre season friendly against Ajax.
2. Norwich City's nickname is "The Canaries". Why was this name first linked to the club?

Answer: The city of Norwich was famous for breeding canaries

Since the 15th century, the city of Norwich has been associated with the breeding and keeping of canaries. This pastime was introduced by Flemish weavers who moved to the area in the 15th century, bringing with them their exotic birds from The Netherlands.

In 1905 their former manager John Bowman mentioned that he had heard of The Canaries when asked about Norwich City. The name stuck, the club changed to wearing yellow and green and adopted a canary for the club badge.
3. What name is given to the Player Of The Year trophy, which is voted for by the fans and presented at the end of each season?

Answer: The Barry Butler Memorial Trophy

The trophy was named after former club captain Barry Butler who was tragically killed in a road accident in 1965. The trophy was first presented to Terry Allcock at the end of the 1966-67 season.
4. In 1985 Norwich City beat Sunderland in the League Cup final at Wembley Stadium. Whose deflected goal gave them their 1-0 victory?

Answer: Asa Hartford

Norwich later survived a penalty miss from Sunderland and went on to lift the then titled Milk Cup. It was their second League Cup win (their first was in 1962).
5. In the 1993-94 UEFA Cup, Norwich City became the first English team to beat Bayern Munich in the Olympic Stadium at Munich. The score line was 2-1 to the Canaries, who managed to secure a place in the next round after achieving the necessary result in the following home leg. What was the score line at Carrow Road that saw Norwich through to a mouth watering tie with Inter Milan?

Answer: 1-1

Jeremy Goss scored in both legs, in what is seen by many as Norwich City's finest moment.
6. In 1995 ex-Canary Martin O'Neill spent a brief period as Norwich City manager. He resigned his post just months into the season. Which club did he move on to manage that same season?

Answer: Leicester City

O'Neill played for Norwich in the 1980s and was a popular choice among the fans as manager. He went on to manage Leicester until 2000, then moved on to a very successful spell at Celtic.
7. A home match on a Monday night at the end of February 2005. Celebrity cook and life long fan, Delia Smith, infamously ranted live on tv at half time to a bewildered Carrow Road. Which fellow Premier League team were Norwich playing at the time?

Answer: Manchester City

Her half time rant - "For the best football supporters in the world, we need a 12th man. Where are you? Let's be 'aving you. Come on!"
Norwich City eventually lost the game 3-2, but the match will be forever remembered for Delia's moment of madness.
8. In August 2009 Norwich suffered a humiliating 7-1 home defeat at the hands of Colchester United. Who scored Norwich City's only goal in that match?

Answer: Cody Mcdonald

In the aftermath of the game, Norwich manager Bryan Gunn was replaced by the Colchester manager Paul Lambert who switched teams and helped Norwich achieve two successive promotions (League One to Championship to Premiership), and then Premier League survival.
9. Which of these ex-Norwich players didn't go on to play for his country?

Answer: Steve Bruce

10. Which one of these ex-Norwich players didn't play for Chelsea, after leaving The Canaries?

Answer: Ruel Fox
