Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. In 2007, the Indians had a good run in the postseason, but couldn't come out of the American League, losing to the eventual champion Boston Red Sox. Who was their manager that year?

Answer: Eric Wedge

Wedge led the team to a 96-66 record and captured the AL Central crown.
He was manager from 2003 to 2009.
2. On July 30, 2014, players for the Indians decided to honor longtime hurler Justin Masterson mere hours after he was traded away to the Cardinals. What did the players do to honor Masterson?

Answer: Everyone wore high socks

Justin Masterson was the only one on the team, and one of few across the league, to wear high socks as he pitched. Masterson had somewhat of a side-arm approach to pitching, and often lifted up his knee and bent it very slightly right before throwing a pitch. This, most likely unknowingly, showed off his high socks and those high socks became something of a unique style he embodied.
3. Former Indians relief pitcher Chris Perez once got suspended for doing something truly bizarre in 2015. What did he do?

Answer: Shipped marijuana to his dog

When he is in-season, Perez has had his relatives look after his dog, as he travels quite a lot and could not reliably look after it otherwise. One day, a package arrived to his relatives addressed to his dog by name. The package had nine ounces of marijuana in it. He was suspended for fifty games and forced to serve one year of probation.
4. Throughout the 2000s and 2010s, which pitcher threw a no hitter for the Indians?

Answer: None of these

While the three pitchers listed were undoubtedly dominant with the Tribe, they never did record a no-no while pitching for Cleveland. The last time any Indians pitcher threw a no-hitter was in 1981, as Len Barker straight up threw a perfect game.
5. In 2013, in the midst of an energetic playoff-hopeful season, the Indians got themselves what the team considered to be a "good luck charm" by the name of Cody. What was Cody?

Answer: A chicken

One of the team's clubhouse workers supplied the chicken to the team in the middle of the season. Every day for the rest of the year, Justin Masterson would carry the chicken out toward the warning track while the batters took batting practice and the pitchers warmed up.

It was never revealed why exactly the team did this, but as it seemed to resonate well with players and fans, it's safe to say that Cody the chicken's presence was definitely appreciated.
6. In their eventual World Series reaching 2016 season, the Indians acquired relief pitching help at the trade deadline with a flamethrower hurler from the New York Yankees. Who did the team trade for?

Answer: Andrew Miller

Miller, an electrifying set up man, worked very well in tandem with then-closer Cody Allen. Miller was a lefty while Allen was a righty, and Miller could throw so hard that he was naturally a great fit for the bullpen in general. He did come at a steep cost, however, as the Indians sent four prospects to the Yankees, notable names such as Clint Frazier and Justus Sheffield included. Miller would play for the team for three seasons before moving on to St Louis to join the Cardinals in 2019.
7. In 2017, the Indians went on a rampage towards the end of the regular season with a gargantuan win streak. How many games in a row did the Indians win?

Answer: 22

This massive streak set an American League record, allowing the Indians to head into the postseason with momentum.
8. When the Indians had a massive win streak in 2017, what team was the one who finally ended it and defeated them?

Answer: Kansas City Royals

The Royals came to Cleveland for a three game series that started on September 14th, 2017. Cleveland won on September 14th to extend the winning streak to 22, but the Royals ended the streak on September 15th. Still, the winning streak did indeed set an American League record.
9. In the middle of their eventual 2016 World Series qualifying season, a trend came up surrounding an Indians slugger that even the player himself began to emphatically support. The trend itself was "Party at ______'s" that even saw the team begin to sell T-Shirts with this slogan on it. What player was this fad based around?

Answer: Mike Napoli

Mike Napoli, the fun loving free-swinger with a power bat, was the basis of this trend. "Party at Napoli's" would often get shouted during Indians home games as Mike Napoli came up to bat. Whenever he would hit a ball hard, especially on a home run, the stands cheered noticeably louder than other players did.
10. Why was the 2000 season notable for the Indians?

Answer: It was the team's one hundredth season

The Cleveland Indians franchise formally joined the MLB in 1901. In the year 2000, the franchise played its 100th season in the Major Leagues.
