3. The 1970s saw three race horses win the Triple Crown. Which of these horse's bloodlines could not be traced to Bold Ruler?

Answer: Affirmed

Secretariat was sired by Bold Ruler. Seattle Slew is by Bold Reasoning, who is by Boldnesian, who is by Bold Ruler, which means Bold Ruler was his great grand sire. Affirmed is by Exclusive Native and out of a dam named, Won't Tell You, who was by Crafty Admiral. Affirmed had no Bold Ruler blood anywhere in his pedigree.
4. Raise a Native, was also considered one of the greatest American stallions in history. Which of the following horses was not sired by Raise a Native?

Answer: Belmont

In 1964, Northern Dancer won the Kentucky Derby and the Preakness but failed in the Belmont. He ran third to Quadrangle and Roman Brother.
6. Of the three Triple Crown winners in the 1970s, which horse was most successful at stud?

Answer: Seattle Slew

Although Secretariat and Affirmed had well above average careers in the breeding shed, Seattle Slew by far out produced both of these horses. Along with Kentucky Derby winner Swale, Seattle Slew sired 1992 Breeders Cup Classic winner A.P. Indy, Slew O'Gold, and champion filly Landuluce.

Gummo sired 26 stakes winners, including additional champions Princess Karenda, I'm Smokin, The Carpenter, and Barberstown.

Strike the Gold never ran in the Breeders Cup Classic.
13. Which of these decades saw the most Triple Crown winners?

Answer: 1940s

The 1930s and 1970s both saw three Triple Crown winners in each of these decades. However, it was the 1940s which had four Triple Crown winners: Whirlaway (1941), Count Fleet (1943), Assault (1946), and Citation in 1948. During the 1950s there were no Triple Crown winners.
14. Which horse was the first thoroughbred to defeat two Triple Crown winners in the same race?

Answer: Exceller

Exceller defeated both Affirmed and Seattle Slew in the 1978 Jockey Club Gold Cup. This was an incredible accomplishment that may never be duplicated again. For two Triple Crown winners, two to even meet in the same race has proven to be extrememley rare, let alone having a horse come into the race and beat both of them.
15. During his career, this horse set or equaled eight track records at seven different tracks. At the age of three he won the 1979 Kentucky Derby and the Preakness, and was undefeated at the age of four. Which horse is it?
