Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What was the team's first season as the Tennessee Titans?

Answer: 1999

Though they moved from Houston to Tennessee in 1997, the team was known as the Tennessee Oilers in 1997 and 1998.
2. Titans QB Steve McNair attended what college?

Answer: Alcorn St.

McNair was drafted in the first round (3rd overall pick) by the Houston Oilers in 1995.
3. Which Titan lateraled to Kevin Dyson, who ran 75 yards for the winning touchdown during the "Music City Miracle" playoff game against the Buffalo Bills in 1999?

Answer: Frank Wycheck

After the Bills kicked the go ahead field goal with 16 seconds left in the game, Lorenzo Neal fielded Steve Christie's kickoff, handed the ball to Frank Wycheck who tossed it to Kevin Dyson who scored the winning TD untouched. On the replay, it appeared that Wycheck made an illegal forward lateral but the play was allowed to stand, and the Titans won 22-16. That year they ended up losing Super Bowl XXXIV to the St. Louis Rams 23-16 when Dyson was tackled one yard short of the tying touchdown.
4. Titans running back Eddie George set a new Titans record with 216 yards rushing in one game?

Answer: True

George accomplished this on opening day, 1997 in a 24-21 overtime victory over the Oakland Raiders. The Oilers record was set in 1961 by Billy Cannon. An odd little fact: Cannon's big game came against the Titans - the New York Titans- who later became the New York Jets.
5. Which of these players never played for the Tennessee franchise?

Answer: Tim McKyer

McKyer played for 7 different teams during his 12 year career but Tennessee was not one of them. Dave Krieg attempted a total of 23 passes playing for Tennessee in 1997 and 1998. Running back Ronnie Harmon played in 11 games as a Tennessee Oiler in 1997. Reggie Roby was the team's punter in 1997.
6. The Titans won their first ever regular season game at Adelphia Coliseum?

Answer: True

On opening day 1999, the Titans beat the Cincinnati Bengals 36-35. The Titans had blown a 26-7 lead and trailed 35-26 with less than 8 minutes remaining, but a 17 yard TD pass from Steve McNair to Eddie George, and a 33 yard field goal by Al Del Greco with 8 seconds remaining gave the Titans the win.
7. Who was the Titans receiving yardage leader in 2000, 2001, and 2002?

Answer: Derrick Mason

Mason had over 1,000 yards receiving in 2001 and 2002.
8. Which was the first team to beat the Titans at Adelphia Coliseum?

Answer: Baltimore Ravens

This didn't happen until halfway through the 2000 season. The Titans had gone 9-0 at home in 1999 (including post-season), and won the first four home games of 2000. Final Score: Ravens 24 Titans 23.
9. The Titans made it to Super Bowl XXXIV as a wildcard team, meaning they had to play three playoff games. They beat the Bills in the first of these and the Jaguars in the third. Which team did they defeat in between?

Answer: Indianapolis Colts

The Titans won in Indianapolis, 19-16.
10. Who returned a kickoff 80 yards for a TD for the Titans against the Jacksonville Jaguars, during the 1999 AFC Championship game?

Answer: Derrick Mason

This was actually a return of a free kick the Titans were receiving after scoring a safety. Statistically it counts as a kickoff return. The touchdown gave the Titans an insurmountable 26-14 lead, and they won the game 33-14.
