Answer: Boomer Sooner

The song is not an original. The tune was taken from Yales Boola Boola. Some of the words came from the schools cheer.
2. In what year did Oklahoma win its first National Championship?

Answer: 1950

With Bud Wilkinson as coach, the Sooners went 10-0 in the regular season, and at the end of the season they were named national champions. At that time, the title was given out before bowl games so Oklahoma's loss to Kentucky in the Orange Bowl, did not count against them.
3. Who were the Selmon brothers who played for Oklahoma?

Answer: Lucious, Lee Roy, Dewey

The Selmon brothers are from Eufaula. Lucious was the first to play for Oklahoma. Lee Roy was the first ever draft pick of Tampa Bay.
4. Which quarterback took over for Charles Thompson, when he hurt his knee in 1988?

Answer: Jamelle Holieway

Jamelle was the starter for the 1985 national champions as a freshman. In 1988, he led the Sooners into the Citrus Bowl, where they lost 13-6 to Clemson.
5. What team did Oklahoma play in the Orange Bowl to win the 1975 National Championship?

Answer: Michigan

This was Oklahoma's first bowl game in 2 years, after missing one in 1974 due to probation. The Sooners won it 14-6.

The Sooners have a 2-3 record against Miami, having won in 1973 and 1975. Since then, Miami beat them in 1985 which did not keep the Sooners from winning the title, 1986, and in the 1987 Orange Bowl.

Though he did not have the success Barry Switzer had at Oklahoma, the one thing Gibbs didn't do was lose to OSU. Though he did tie them in 1992.

The Sooners went 7-5 in Bob Stoopes first season of 1999. Losing to Notre Dame, Texas, Colorado, Texas Tech, and Ole Miss, in the Independence Bowl. They had problems with there running game and couldn't keep leads.

Answer: Billy Simms, Steve Owens, Billy Vessels
