Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Both the New York Football Giants and New York Jets play at New Meadowlands Stadium, which is in what New Jersey city?

Answer: East Rutherford

New Meadowlands Stadium opened in 2010, replacing Giants Stadium, which had been in operation from 1976 to 2010. Giants stadium was demolished and the site used for stadium parking.

Similar to Giants Stadium, New Meadowlands Stadium is the only NFL stadium shared by two teams. However, while the NY Jets were only a minor partner/tenant in Giants Stadium, both the NY Giants and NY Jets are equal partners in New Meadowlands Stadium.
2. The Washington Redskins are at home at FedEx Field, which isn't in Washington, DC. Where is it?

Answer: Landover, MD

When it opened in 1997, the stadium was called Jack Kent Cooke Stadium, after the team's recently deceased owner. Naming rights were sold to FedEx in 1999.

Prior to 1997, the Redskins played at Robert F. Kennedy Memorial Stadium, located in Washington, DC. The MLS team DC United did not move to FedEx Field, choosing to remain at RFK.
3. The Dallas Cowboys play at Cowboys Stadium, but it's not in Dallas. What Texas town is home to the Cowboys?

Answer: Arlington

When Cowboys Stadium opened in 2009, it boasted that the video board hung over the center of the field was the largest high-definition television screen in the world at the time, 180 feet wide by 50 feet high. Previously, the Cowboys played at Texas Stadium in Irving, from 1971-2009.
4. Ralph Wilson Stadium is home to the Buffalo Bills, which is in what suburb of Buffalo, NY?

Answer: Orchard Park

In an early example of selling naming rights, the stadium was originally called Rich Stadium when it opened in 1972, as the result of a 25-year, multi-million deal with Rich Products, a multi-national food products company based in Buffalo.

When Rich Products did not renew their agreement in 1998, the stadium was renamed after the team founder and owner, Ralph Wilson.
5. Tropicana Field is where the Tampa Bay Rays call home. What city is it in?

Answer: St. Petersburg

The city of St. Petersburg built the stadium in an attempt to lure a Major League Baseball team to the area. Though the stadium opened in 1990, the Tampa Bay Rays (then the Devil Rays) played their first game there in 1998.

The stadium was previously named the Florida Suncoast Dome (1990-1993), and the Thunderdome (1993-1996) before Tropicana bought the naming rights in 1996.
6. The Palace of Auburn Hills is the home court of which NBA team?

Answer: Detroit Pistons

The Palace of Auburn Hills opened in 1988, the year of the Detroit Pistons first championship season.

Whenever one of the basketball teams calling the Palace home has won a championship, the number address of the stadium has changed. In 2010, it was at number 6 Championship Drive, representing the 3 titles for the Detroit Pistons and the 3 titles for the Detroit Shock, a WNBA team that played there from 1998-2009 before moving to Tulsa.
7. The Phoenix Coyotes NHL team play in Jobing.com Arena, which is located in what Arizona city?

Answer: Glendale

Jobing.com Arena (previously the Glendale Arena from 2003 to 2007) is across the street from the University of Phoenix Stadium, home to the NFL team Arizona Cardinals.

At the start of the 2009-10 season, Jobing.com Arena was the only current NHL arena that had not hosted a playoff game. This changed at the end of the season when the Coyotes made the playoffs, losing to the Detroit Red Wings, 4 games to 3 in the first round.
8. Major League Soccer Chicago Fire played at Toyota Park in which Illinois city?

Answer: Bridgeview

Toyota Park was called the Bridgeview Stadium when it opened in 2006, but that year Toyota leased the naming rights for 10 years.

Other teams calling Toyota Park home were the Major League Lacrosse team Chicago Machine, and the women's professional soccer team, Chicago Red Stars.
9. The Home Depot Center is the "home depot" for the Major League Soccer team, Los Angeles Galaxy. What city is it in?

Answer: Carson

The Los Angeles Galaxy have been at the Home Depot Center since 2003. The Galaxy have shared the Home Depot Center with another MLS team, Chivas USA since 2005.

Technically, Carson is in Los Angeles County, so the name isn't wrong, but the fact remains that the Home Depot Center is not in the city of Los Angeles.
10. The Major League Soccer team, New York Red Bulls, played in Giants Stadium before moving to Harrison, NJ, where they played in what stadium?

Answer: Red Bull Arena

The NY Red Bulls were previously known as the NY/NJ MetroStars. When Red Bull purchased the team in 2006, they changed the name, logo, colors, etc. The purchase even delayed the construction of Red Bull Arena, because the new owners had their own ideas for the site. The team played in Giants Stadium from 1996 to 2010.
