Double sculls is an Olympic rowing event where - similar to pairs event - there are two rowers in each boat. The difference is the number of oars for each rower. In double sculls, each rower has two oars, one for each side; while in pairs, one rower has an oar in the left and another rower in the right.
2. Finn
Answer: Sailing
Finn is a one-person dinghy event. Denmark won the first three gold from 1952 to 1960.
3. Mixed doubles
Answer: Badminton
Badminton became an Olympic sport in 1992, although the mixed doubles event was added four years later at the 1996 Atlanta Olympic Games. There is also mixed doubles event in Olympic tennis.
4. Individual dressage
Answer: Equestrian
Individual dressage was first held at the 1912 Stockholm games, where only male military officers could participate. This restriction was lifted at the 1952 Helsinki games, making individual dressage one of the few Olympic events where men and women compete against one another.
5. Individual épée
Answer: Fencing
Épée is one of three weapons in Olympic fencing (the others are sabre and foil). Italy dominated the men's individual event from 1932 to 1960, winning six consecutive golds, each from different athletes.
6. Keirin
Answer: Track cycling
Developed in Japan, Keirin means "racing cycle" in Japanese. It is relatively new in the Olympic games, added in 2000 for men and 2012 for women.
7. 10m platform
Answer: Diving
The USA dominated this event until 1984, when China was able to enter the competition.
8. 3000m steeplechase
Answer: Athletics
It was included as an Olympic event in 1920 for men and 2008 for women. Kenya dominates the men's event by winning 9 consecutive gold medals 1984-2016.
9. Vault
Answer: Artistic gymnastics
In vaulting, gymnasts jump over a vaulting table and perform some complex manoeuvres (twist, salto, etc.). They also have to land firmly on both feet.
At the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games, host country China almost did the clean sweep of all 8 gold medals in men's artistic gymnastics. Men's vault is the only event they didn't win.
10. Skeet
Answer: Shooting
In skeet shooting, athletes have to shoot quickly moving clay targets.
An Olympic event since 1968, it was open (male and female compete against one another) until 1992. During those Olympics, only one woman won gold: Zhang Shan of China in 1992
