Answer: 1979

The year before 1978-79 in the WHA (World Hockey Association) they won the Avco cup as league champs, beating the Edmonton Oilers. It was the third time they had one the cup and the last time any team would ever win as the following year the WHA folded.
2. Who was Winnipeg"s first ever draft Pick, 19th overall in 1979?

Answer: Jimmy Mann

Mann went on to get only 30 career points in 293 career games.
Thomas Steen was drafted 105th overall that same year, Dale Hawerchuck was drafted 2 years later 1st overall, and Jimmy Carson never even played on the Jets.

Answer: Pittsburgh

The final score was 4-2 in favor of Pittsburgh.
4. Who was the first Jet ever to win the Calder trophy for most outstanding rookie in the NHL?

Answer: Dale Hawerchuk

Hawerchuk won it for the 1981-82 season scoring 45 and adding 58 assists. Temmu Selanne won it during the 1992-1993 season scoring 76 goals and 132 points. Steen and Tkachuk never won it in the first place.
5. Which of the following players won the Norris trophy before joining the Jets?

Answer: Randy Carlyle

Carlyle won the Norris Trophy in 1981 while playing for Pittsburgh Penguins. He joined the Jets in 1983 and went on to have a remarkable career. He finished off his career in 1993 with 647 points in 1055 career games, pretty good for a defenseman. He later would return to Winnipeg to coach the Manitoba Moose of the AHL.

He joined the Anaheim Mighty Ducks of the NHL as a head coach for the 2005-06 season.
6. What year did the Jets retire their original team logo?

Answer: 1995

They still kept the jet but gave the picture of the jet a lot more detail, even though it wasn't the biggest change the fans still appreciated the change. They also retired Thomas Steen's number 25 that same night.

Answer: Oleg Tverdovsky

Teemmu was traded to the Anaheim Mighty Ducks. Teemu went on to score two 50-goal seasons playing along side the likes of Paul Kariya. Oleg Tverdovsky would have three fairly productive seasons before signing with Mighty Ducks in 1999.

Answer: Keith Tkachuk

The following year in 1996-1997 he accomplish the feat again with "new" Winnipeg Jets, the Phoenix Coyotes scoring 52 goals.

King was the last Winnipeg Jet ever to win an NHL award winning the King Clancy award, presented to the player who "best exemplifies leadership qualities on and off the ice and has made a noteworthy humanitarian contribution in his community", for the 1995-96 season.
