Fun Trivia
The National Hockey League added this franchise to the league in 1979. In 1996, after failing to make a Stanley Cup finals, the team moved to Phoenix to become the Coyotes (the Winnipeg Jets re-emerged in 2011 when the Atlanta Thrashers moved to Winnipeg). The Coyotes franchise changed its name to Arizona Coyotes in 2014.

During the 1995-1996 season the city of Winnipeg could no longer afford a team. The team was forced to move and on Dec. 19, 1996, the Winnipeg Jets ownership announced their new home in Phoenix, AZ.
