Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. The third race was held at Interlagos in Sao Paulo (Brazil), on March 31st, 2002. It was during this race that Ferrari introduced their 2002 car. They had run on F2001 for the first two races. Who drove the lone F2002 ?

Answer: Michael Schumacher

One of the factors that led to this decision was the fact that the Interlagos circuit favoured the BMW engine and Michellin tyres. Since they had not fully tested the new chassis, they decided to allot F2002 to Michael.
2. Who was fastest in Saturday's qualifying at Interlagos?

Answer: J.P Montoya

This was the start of Montoya's brilliant performances at qualifying. He was fastest in qualifying in a total of 7 races out of 17, tied with Michael Schumacher on that count.
3. In Sunday's race at Interlagos, how many cars using Bridgestone tires finished in points scoring positions?

Answer: 1

Michael Schumacher was the lone driver who finished on Bridgestone tires. Interlagos was considered as one of the best circuits for Michellin tires because of its hot climate. Even in qualifying, only Michael Schumacher was amongst the top six.
4. Nine drivers didn't finish the Interlagos race due to various reaons. Which of the following was not a cause?

Answer: Stalled on Grid

No one stalled on the grid in this race. Trulli and Fisichella had engine problems; both Arrows had suspension problems; Barrichello had hydraulics, and only Massa had an 'accident'.
5. Who won the 2002 Brazilian Grand Prix?

Answer: Michael Schumacher

An interesting feature in the second and third races were the dog-fights between Michael Schumacher and J.P Montoya, simply brilliant examples of 'throwing caution to the wind' driving. Montoya had the first laugh at Sepang, while Michael took his revenge at Interlagos. Total Laps were 71 (4.267 Kilometres); a total distance of 304.147 kilometres. Fastest Lap was by J.P Montoya.
6. The fourth race of the season was held at Autodromo Enzo E Dino Ferrari at Imola. The race was characterized by speeding in pit lanes and various offenses. Nevertheless, it was a Ferrari one-two in both qualifying and practice. Only one driver failed to qualify for Sunday's race, because he fell outside the 107% rule. Who was that driver?

Answer: Alex Yoong

Alex's fastest lap was at 1:27:241, which was three seconds slower than the 21st place driver (Pedro De La Rosa). Schumacher was fastest in qualifying with a time of 1:21:091.
7. The first accusations against Ferrari came during the race at Imola, when rival car companies said they could see the F2002's barge boards flexing - which is against FIA rules. Which rival took the matter to the governing body but didn't register a official protest?

Answer: McLaren

They reckoned it gave Ferrari an unfair aid in downforce, of course these charges were never proved and soon fizzled out, when rivals realised the F2002 was simply in a class of its own.
8. The Race at Imola was held on April 14th, 2002. How many drivers finished the race?

Answer: 11

The drivers who didn't finish included Raikkonen, Bernoldi, Irvine, Frentzen, both Toyotas, Both Jordans etc., along with Alex Yoong who didn't start the race.
9. Michael Schumacher won the 2002 Imola race?

Answer: True

At the end of this race, he had a total of 34 points, a lead of 14 points over his nearest rival Schumacher Jr.
10. At the start of the Imola race, how many teams were using Bridgestone tires?

Answer: 5

Ferrari, Sauber, Arrows, B.A.R Honda and Jordan Honda, were the five teams using Bridgestone tyres. The rest of the six used Michellin tires. Total laps were 62 (4.9 kilometres); Total race distance was 303.848 Kilometres, and fastest lap was by Rubens Barrichello.
